lol MW2, I have it now running (without patches) on all my computers.

Pssst! Not wise to taunt the mods. :)

Having said that, I am somewhat jealous of your PC.

Seems to work on the ATI RAGE Edition. Only bugs I found are that the music playback stops after one play through of the track, and if you override a shutdown, and over heat, your heat doesn't seem to dissipate. Might just be me. Otherwise, the seems to work just fine.

Anyone able to fiddle with the screen resolution?

IS there any way to get this sort of thing working with MW2 Mercs?
I can run a version of MW2 Mercs via dosbox, but I want to get it working with the salvage mechanic (I want that early atlas from the FRR mission).
Help?

I did get it working with MechVM.

Resolution was terrible, though. Mine was the Titanium version, which I think was locked at that low resolution. Salvage was working properly...but my god it's hard to get those headshots.

~Using the above method?
Or another?

I can get the core game working by copy/pasting some files around and running the mercs.exe via dosbox rather than running the MERCSWIN, but adding my salvage patch doesn't seem to work, and creates the old perennial sound bug in menus (and still fails to add salvage).

I'm working with a classic dos/95 disc, and some copied folders.

I've got a folder version with the 3d vfx upgrade from the 1.1 patch, but that is (as it always has been for me) bugged.

EDIT: my current version that I have installed "works".
However, it has the 1.1 patch applied (somehow), which includes the 3d upgrade.
Obviously, this is broken, as it shows my hud, but not the 3d scenery or cockpit. Sounds are also disabled during missions for some reason (except for music from my CD).

I've tried the gdvoodoo wrapper download, and the wrapper for the 3dfx stuff linked in the OP of this thread. Neither seem to have any effect.
I've also snagged a 1.1 patch from mech2.org. but haven't tried that file yet.
Thoughts?

EDIT2:
I've tried my 1.1 folder copy (one of the versions provided from mech2.org) and managed to get the graphics fixed.
Now I have the sound bug where the menu sounds are screwed, and the mission sounds do not play, but I still at least get the (admittedly brilliant) music.
This is wild.

EDIT3: Okay, I tried doing this via mechVM, and while I can get it to load into game... it refuses to recognize my mouse/keyboard. But appears to have the salvage setup via VM?
All very confusing, and I followed the steps in the OP.
To be more accurate it recognises that they exist, it just refuses to remember that I've told it to use them, and appears to "forget" half the controls in the mechVM version.

I believe I used the majority of the steps in the OP, though there were still issues. Videos didn't load properly, and appeared pixelated and green.

Which version did you have? Mine was the Titanium (which you can get from certain downloading sites), though this method should work for the Dos version as well:

http://www.mech2.org...c.php?f=8&t=806

I got through fine with the MechVM, solution #1, though there are 8 available. Different versions have different issues. Titanium includes the salvage patch, but loses on resolution compared to the others.

My current disc version is the 95/dos edition red disc.
What I need is a version of the game without the 3d upgrade, but still using salvage (as the 3d upgrade always breaks on me).

Nvrmind. I dug out my 12 year old Windows 98/MI computer.

It is also worth mentioning the vanilla DOS versions of both of these games work PERFECTLY in Dosbox. The version I use currently is a heavily modified version:

http://ykhwong.x-y.net/

And it has neat things like CRT shaders--but that's only half of what I do to make my LCD monitor look like a CRT. Old games just don't look right on anything but original display devices. The reason? They were made to take advantage of flaws in the equipment.

Hi

I need some help

I am up to step 4 (in installing the ATI edition)

I have clicked 95 compatibility and running as Administrator

I click the file, my hour glass appears for a while, then disappears and nothing pops up, IE the installation process

However in Alt Control Delete, processes running it says that setup32.exe is running

Any help, as I would love to be able to play Mechwarrior 2 again

figured out the problem, overwolf was interfering with the file's running. It works great now, especially ATI converted to "kind of" 3D

A huge Thanks

HI everyone! This solution worked perfectly for me, it is, however, a little odd getting used to these old controls.

I must mention that this is my first time ever playing Mechwarrior 2: 31st Century Combat, so I was honestly shocked when this worked like a charm! Thank you OP for making my night, for letting me experience this game for the first time!

Can anyone get MECHWARRIOR 2... IN 3DFX--WORKING IN Windows 10?

I tried following this thread

http://mwomercs.com/...ndows-7-64-bit/

But it failed on step 4.

4. Set Windows 95 compatibility on setup32.exe, run it and install the game.

I got my copy of the game in the following link.

http://www.myabandon...at-34i#download

and installed dosbox 0.74 at the following link.

http://www.dosbox.co...load.php?main=1

Tried to mount as per instructions from the myabandonware website but with no success.

Can anyone who can get it work with windows 10 show a list of instructions on how to do it via dosbox or with any other tools with 3dfx and all that.

Cheers in advance.

Please reply to thread below.
