Playing a match today and all the sudden my critical damage warning goes off for no apparent reason. I look down and my torso and head are almost gone.

No bang, no clang...

Fortunately I was FRAPSing matches and so was able to go back and watch the mysterious damage occuring.

Don't believe me?

Here you go:

Now, I expect that when I'm damaged, I'll hear the splash of lasers, or clang of a round. Or, if I'm shot in the head, I see this flash, or the zipping round of an AC or gauss round.

NONE of that happened.

Hack? Bug? WTFBBQ?!?!

Yeah, but no 'clang' from the hit of the multi-ton nickel iron slug that just hit me up side the head?

No cockpit jiggle?

No heat flash from the round as it leaves the barrel and hits the atmosphere moving several thousand kph/second?

Nothing?

Now, obviously if this was a gauss, he was firing from beyond the 1000m firing range and hitting me, we can assume this because:

1. I can see 'mechs at 1000meters. In this video, we'd just started the match and there was no chance for a gauss carrier to get behind, and in front, even on the famous perches where I looked, no 'mechs were visible.
2. While you may not be able to tell from the video, my location provided full cover from the left and right. I would only be vulnerable from my direct front and rear, and since 1 is true, there's no chance it was rear damage.

If this is a regular occurance this needs to be looked at.

Either someone is exploiting a weak game mechanism, or worse, someone is utilizing Crysis engine aimbot hacks...

I have seen this in my C1 as well.

Be way back behind all friendlies and (I thought) completely out of sight from enemy, firing using on the spotting from scouts or others 'up front' and I noticed that if I turn to the right (not twist, but actually do a slight turn) or left that first my ct gets damage and then as I adjust back to where i was the head will go red and then the crit damage appears.

It does not happen ALL the the time, but it does happen. I wrote it off as a great shot that i did not see coming. But seeing the vid and having the same thing happen to me,I am with you, is this a bug?

Maybe the legs of Cat are slamming into the body causing the damage, but i would think the side torsos would take the damage rather than the CT / Head.

yep same "sort" of issue...was barely yellow torso the other night...took one round of LRM as damage....next I know BOOOM I'm face down in the dirt... no gauss hit, no anything that could have hit me hard enough to rip 90% of my armor and ******* to smithereens in one alpha.

It's gauss rounds hitting you. Sometimes they don't make any sound, how ever i'm not sure why you weren't able to see them impacting considering they hit CT and Head.

that why is said fathom. He is firing from over 1K and is using 4x zoom .It has happen more time then i can count. I know it is a guy because i have died from the hit with no sound of the round. I know of 3 mech pilots that do it. It should make a sound but nope. So it a special bug that happens for gauss fired pass at least 1250m. As for the jenner it happpens to me when they are humping my leg and firing i get no sound.
