It is not acceptable seeing the 'Rising Sun' flag skin mech in your mechwarrior online

Most Asians find it bitter and painful to see the flag which was used to represent Japan during the Second World War.

Rising Sun flag remind many people of the very hurtful memories because the flag symbolizes the old Japanese nationalism

as well as Nazism when Japan was allied with German Nazis during the World War ll.

To the Asian people the flag means racial insult, politically and further historically.

Please don't make any more people grieve with disturbance.

Please, never overlook that for Koreans and the other victims in Asia, swinging the "Rising sun flags" is just same

as "Swinging Hakenkreuz" in front of the European peoples!

If you don't want to advocate **** flag in olympic stadium, Please keep the RISING SUN flags off as well.

Our korean mechwarriors do not accept your mech skin "Rising sun flag skin mech"

---> see just your background image!!!

Well... you have to contact FASA about this as they were the ones to create the paintjob for the mech back in the 80's.. And trust me if that offends you i strongly recommend that you don't read any of the books or lore for the battletech games... racial stereotyping and should we say less then flattering descriptions of any culture not white american is so thick in those books you could cut it with a knife (just read the stuff about house Liao for an example)

the mech is straight from canon and has only little to do with japan's WW2 war flag.
get over it.

It's easier to read your post when you use the default font size and no bold. :)

You're around 27 years too late to accuse wang of being offensive.

Actually, this game is from North America *Canada*. There's no law against promoting the Rising Sun. Same goes to the Swastika, Confederacy, and other hatred symbols.

In Germany and Russia, the gaming industry are prohibited from displaying any form of Swastika in their games and be sold in Germany and Russia.

The game takes place a thousand years from now so I don't think they're concerned about World War 2 anymore. Real life takes place 70 years after World War 2 and I'm not sure we're all as concerned about it anymore. Censorship wont make it go away but reminding everybody about what it means will make sure it lives on for a long time.

Well to be honest the OP do have a point... The writers of FASA was horribly ethnocentric and did not do much in the way of research in to cultures outside their own when writing the lore. So time upon time we have stuff that today would have a writer landed without a contract (or in some cases i am sure in court).

For some interesting reading on why this can be bad look up the term symbolic violence. (and to a lesser degree soft power)

Buuuuut in this case it is like keeping the german military markings on german WW2 planes and tanks in wargames form this period.

The flag is considered offensive in countries which were victims of Japanese aggression, specifically in China and the Koreas,[5][6] where it is considered to be associated with Japanese militarism and imperialism.

Asian people is a bit of a broad term.

Rather some non-japanese who were occupied during WW2.

Quote

The game was banned in the People's Republic of China because the game depicts Tibet, Sinkiang, and Manchuria as independent countries, and Taiwan under Japanese control (historically, Taiwan was under Japanese rule at the time)[2] Paradox Interactive mentions that the game is historically accurate, and that it represents the "rough times" that China endured, as well as the incredible odds that the Communist Party of China overcame in order to win the Chinese Civil War.[3]

And I remember clearly china officials saying that China was never occupied by the japanese as the reason why the hearts of iron 2 was banned.

Your lack of research is unacceptable, your lack of netiquette is unacceptable.
Get with the program the game is in the 4th Millennium, the universe is a melting pot of cultures people have moved on.
BTW-the servers are in the US, you are on them as a guest. It's in bad form for guest to complain.

In my country the colour of the dragon is deeply offensive because it's the colour of poop.

We the people of my country demand PGI to get rid of this heinous poop colour.

The rising sun flag is a part of modern pop-culture.

There are T-Shirts, Sneakers, Handbags, Textbooks, Mobile-phone covers etc. flying the design and colors of the rising sun.

The times are a-changin'.

Please do not make distressing posts like this, it is offensive to me. it reminds me of all the people out there that spent years complaining about things that offend them, and how it has absolutely destroyed civilization. Christmas no longer exists, it is now "winter holiday", and all the joy and meaning has been sucked out of it with all the passionate intensity of a vampire straight out of torpor. We've removed everything kind and decent and moral in society under the guise of being "politically correct"

Funny phrase, that: "politically correct" Since when has anyone in politics ever been "correct" about ANYTHING [especially information on where all the taxpayer money went]. it's a damaged phrase used by a damaged society made up of people trying to force THEIR views on EVERYONE IN THE UNIVERSE.

As a last thought, please keep VERY LARGE IN YOUR MIND the fact that those who forget history are doomed to repeat it. The day people forget the absolute horror of things like WWII concentration camps in Germany or the medical "experiment" facilities run by Japan in China during the same war. . . .is the day some monster with similar ideas is allowed to gain enough power to begin unleashing similar insanity upon humankind.

It is not something to forget, it is a way to always remember: We must be ever vigilant against the senseless horror our ancestors inflicted upon each other in the past. Only in remembering these things can we ensure that we NEVER LET THEM HAPPEN AGAIN.

I understand your feelings, and I respect them. . but some things are just too important to let go.

------------------------------------------------post script---------------------------------------------------------------

While writing this, I came to the realization that I may have stepped about 3 circles over the edge of seriousness in responding to this post. I came within a heartbeat of deleting it and then realized. . EVERY SINGLE WORD I WROTE IS TRUE, even if it may seem . . . overkill. In the day and age where governments around the world are attempting to rewrite a kinder, gentler history of the world, it is more important than EVER that we understand what it was we fought for, fought against, and just how high the cost. So for all those out there thinking to themselves "wow man, it's just a simple post. .you took it WAAAAAYYYY too far. . . .

Yes. Yes I did, and I'm proud I still have the courage of my conviction to let my words stand.

Pfft shouldn't us Americans be more pissed off at this than the "Asians" ??

I mean the Japanese did attack us unprovoked so we should have more of a right to say if it's offensive or not... and if we have no problem with it... then live with the shame of your ancestors :) Or just don't play the game..
