i dont see how life fire training is unsafe for me, i am the one shooting, now those poor suckers i am shooting at on the other hand....

The Goshen BattleMech Academy was founded in the 2950s by Generals Alexander and Truscott, two retired AFFS officers who were tired of seeing the quality of soldiers in the Capellan March plummet. Within a decade, it had added aerospace training programs, and changed its name to the War College of Goshen to specify that it taught more than 'Mech combat. It has become known throughout the AFFS for producing efficient combat leaders.

Recruitment at the War College of Goshen is though word of mouth, similar to Sakhara Academy. Often, multiple generations of warriors will return to Goshen to study. The curriculum focuses on military history and strategy, focusing less on specialty studies and more on creating well-rounded officers. Cadets spend significant amounts of time studying biographies of great military leaders and studying historical campaigns. All primary training is accomplished through live-fire exercises, both among the cadets and against other volunteer forces acting as the opposing force. These include the Marlette CrMM, which often acts as the opposing force for the annual graduation exercise.

I thought they meant live fire target practice, so they're actually talking live fire against other people.

Live fire training produces some hardened SOBs, they are basically full fledged war vest straight out of the academy.

If sending the rookies/cadets/recruits/new meat out for training with live weapons is wrong, I don't want to be right. Besides, it makes a good team and/or character building exercise. Everyone knows that coming out of your nation's military academy(ies) with "funny" stories, cool scars, and/or an eye-patch is a cherished part of military tradition throughout human history.

Being Ex-military myself, there is nothing wrong with live firing exercises.
Consider this, I am a combat engineer by vocation and there is a LOT of difference in rigging a real explosive charge than some plastic simulation box.

God, everyone at the very least, had sweaty palms due to being nervous when rigging a charge for the first time. There were even people who are too afraid to prime and throw grenades !

Ok so one rookie gets off a lucky shot and spreads his mate across most of the base. So everyone else has to suffer?

Live fire ranges separate the Mechwarriors from the tank drivers. Its a simple matter of fact..
