specifically, thinking of buying a cat with the 260 engine to put in my yen-lo.
or some other mech with good parts...

first, is this possible? Can I swap out the 260 engine from a cat to my yen-lo?
Second, since I'm going to be spending around $3K mc, is that the best mech to get for parts (like maybe get an atlas rs for the 300 engine... assuming that would fit... or an atlas k for the 2 medium pulse lasers, ect etc. )

I'm getting a bit tired of spending time in the trials, and want to start working up a decent mech...

I would suggest instead to invest in Premum Time, which will let you earn a significant amount of extra c-bills, and use those c-bills to purchase any equipment or items you need.

Premium time, or hold off until after the patch next week and review the Cataphract first ;)

How long have you been dropping into combat?
Are you simply looking for an engine upgrade?
What is your goal concerning your Yen-lo?

If you are concentrating on the Centurions, I would look at the other variants first, as that will allow you to equip one out, get the MXP, purchase all of the Pilot Lab/Basic items to unlock the Master tier then move on.

But what many have done, especially the founders, is purchase the Atlas K for tis 300XL engine, sell back the chassis only while keeping everything else. For a few they purchased mechs w/XL engines and sold back the chassis again. That provided them with the high priced engines and other parts while filling out their bank with C-Bills with the conversion.

Also, even if you do not have the C-Bills to purchase an item, such as an engine, in the mechlab it will list the highest rated engine for that particular variant. On some mechs, the engine list may only go up to 260. That will give you an idea on the what engines can be used in that mech so you do not purchase another mech and find out its engine will not work in the other mech.

Also if you already have a YLW, the CB bonus there stacks with the CB bonus from Premium Time, for a whopping 80% bonus cash. You'll get nearly a million per evening if you can get in 10 good matches, if you get a month of premium you're looking at a potential total income of over 30 million or more CB, depending on how much or how little) you play.

That's why I'm trying to work with the yen-lo :-) Already bought the premium time, but I'm getting whopped when I drop in for a pug, repair bills are eating into my profit. I was thinking of adding a better engine, and dropping in 4 medium pulse lasers (someone did a post on this in the forums, using yen-lo as a zombie).

Ultimatly, I see myself more in a heavy or long range mech... using the yen-lo to acquire c-bils.

hah, odd to hear absolutely no one on the opposite side of the fence. For each of the beta resets my first purchase has been a K-variant Atlas (anyone remember when they were referred to as "expensive packaging for an XL engine?). Snatch the 300xl out of it and slam it in my Founder's Jenner.
Check the Wang's maximum engine rating first, (go to loadout, center torso, equipment, and scroll all the way down to see what the last engine on the list is). But yes, you can purchase a mech solely for the engine. And yes, plenty of us do this very thing.
