Regarding 3rd Person View

They're most likely going to have third person view in the offline matches and as for implementing it in public matches a good solution would be to enable third person view for maybe 30 seconds into the match then deactivating it once an enemy is spotted or the thirty seconds are up. I just don't think it can work any other way.

I don't like the idea of playing in a 3rd person view. It would change the feel of the game to much for me.

So don't do it then. However, don't let that stop people who would enjoy it from experiencing that with others that enjoy the same.

I'll alway do comp play in 1st person mode, but sometimes I wish I could pug in third person just for kicks. Make it a separate game mode to select or something.

Just means they hope the discussion goes away. PGI has never given a definitive answer on how or if it will be implemented. The fact they have brought up putting turdperson play in at all, is basically a betrayal.

Third person at the beginning of the game so we can check out our cammo and take screenshots?

Third person in game but you can not see enemies or fire weapons?

Third person in practice games (when they are introduced) so that we can make fan films and marvel at the mech models?

No third person in competitive play though.

I think there could be a middle ground that would keep both sides happy.

They should have third person view. If its done well it shouldnt equal cheating. If the iso view has a low enough angle to the ground it would only give you a negligible height advantage.

As soon as no advantage is gained by doing so (i.e. you can only see mechs that are in the LoS of your cockpit when in 3rd person mode) then all is fine and dandy and I couldn't care less what view mode you use.

But that's not how it will work. 3rd person will give a clear advantage which completely negates your "if you don't like it then don't use it" response as it affects me whether I use it or not.

You are ignorant of the original post. Please listen to the developer during the podcast linked in the original post. Then, come back and tell me it's an advantage.

I don't need to.

If my assumption is wrong then it won't affect me, so my previous statement (that I don't care what viewpoint people use as long as it doesn't affect me) still stands.

And if not, then... well... it also still stands.

If it doesn't give any advantage then I don't care if it is added. If it gives an advantage then I do not want it to be added. What the podcast says will not change either of these facts.


If you can provide a direct quote where it has been stated how model rendering would work compared to LoS then I'd certainly be interested in seeing / hearing it, but it's not in the OP and I'm not going to search 95 pages of this thread or the entire podcast to try to find mention of it. ;)

Beat the dead horse!

Just say no to third person. It breaks immersion. This is a sim style game not an action game. It will be used for advantages with voice coordinated teams as well as encourage 'pop tarting'. I can go on and on with it's issues and why we don't need to but almost 100 pages of this will sum it all up.
