And there are people that wouldn't play it just because of the third person view. This logic works both ways homie. We have seen with EvE that companies are rewarded for staying to their word and weathering fotm requests from its player base.
If PGI said this was going to be first person only, then it should stay that way because after the game weathers the initial storm of whine and tears it will emerge as something unique among ftp (already has- War thunder is an amazing game and has incredibly detailed cockpits but the option of third person almost completely negates that experience and no one plays the forced cockpit mode anyways, but I digress.). and will be rewarded for it.

What would make the most sense is putting a toggle-able option for 3rd person in the matchmaker settings.

Third person will force EVERYONE to choose this option because of its advantage over first person, period. If it becomes an option we will just have an updated version of nbt.
Btw a lot of the newer players will not like what they receive from the players who have years of experience with the tactics/advantages associated with this option. There will be rage-quitting, accusations of hacking, openly hostile threads in the forums daily, etc.
I made the change back in MW4/Mercs to third person because it was the only way to remain competitive but I am against it personally. This is a mech simulator.

I don't need to.
If my assumption is wrong then it won't affect me, so my previous statement (that I don't care what viewpoint people use as long as it doesn't affect me) still stands.
And if not, then... well... it also still stands.
If it doesn't give any advantage then I don't care if it is added. If it gives an advantage then I do not want it to be added. What the podcast says will not change either of these facts.
If you can provide a direct quote where it has been stated how model rendering would work compared to LoS then I'd certainly be interested in seeing / hearing it, but it's not in the OP and I'm not going to search 95 pages of this thread or the entire podcast to try to find mention of it.

Riddle me this,
Say two persons are competing against one another. These two persons have the exact same rule set. How does one person have an advantage over another person?
The above scenario is when both players chose to use a 3rd person perspective. The same, can be used for persons playing in the 1st person perspective where each player has elected a different rule set (3rd or 1st).

Has dividing the community into high/low ELO and conquest/assault specific players ruined your gaming experience? It hasn't? But, adding alt view / 1st per view modes will completely destroy the game, segregate the community worse than slavery all the while ruining the game for you? I really wish people had to pass an I.Q. test before they were allowed to think OR post.

My my... you certainly are aggressive, aren't you?
If someone doesn't agree with you you question their IQ until they are shamed into agreeing?
Riddle me this... if you want to play a 3rd person mech game, then why don't you go and play one instead of insisting that this one should be 3rd person too?

Where the majority of the community stand is quite clear. I certainly hope they don't **** off the majority to try to please a tiny minority.

Despite the many threads on this subject, no one has yet been able to provide a link to anything from PGI confirming that there will 100% definitely be a 3rd person camera.

...then have them check out Mechwarrior Tactics. It's 3rd person and adds the "strategic view" to the turned based experience. MWO isn't 3rd person, why should it change to adapt to a subset of the players' whims? The development team has a whole UNIVERSE to create, Clans, Houses, Mercenaries, ECM and the Raven 3L to worry about; I think 3rd person can be left to the Mechwarrior Tactics fellows.

LOL. This game simulates mechs about as well as TF2 simulates hat collecting.
Back to the actual topic of discussion, what really made 3PV desirable in MW3 and MW4, at least for me, was the fact that it massively reduced cockpit shaking. In FPV in both games, the cockpit shake was simply ridunkulous and insane. In MWO, however, cockpit shake is much more tolerable than 3PV shake was in MW3 and MW4. Also, the control scheme is much more smooth and slick, and not as annoyingly clunky as those previous games. As such, using FPV in MWO doesn't suck donkey @$$ like it used to in previous games and is actually quite satisfying.
The one change I'd suggest for MWO's FPV would be to use a different HUD indicator for where one's torso is twisted in relation to the legs. MW4's indicators were MUCH more obvious, whereas MWO's are almost invisible.

Slavery? Really?
A "you're so dumb an I.Q. test is needed so you don't intrude on my self-proclaimed 'Correct' view" comment? I think it's pretty uncalled for. The guy, no the MAJORITY of the folks here disagree with you. Casting aspersions may make you feel all fuzzy and superior, but it won't alter the argument against your claim or the fact MOST PEOPLE disagree. You want Thrid Person, others want variant changes or weapon upgrades, the Clanfolk want clan mechs, the Houses want the war to flare up so they can rumble with the Clan-Homeys, the teams want team match capability, the Badasses want Dubstep soundtrack dance moves so they can celebrate their Pugstomps, Noobs like me want more cockpit junk like beer bottles and Twiinkie wrappers, Lore Folk want planets and drop weights, Newbies want a training area, EVERYONE wants more maps....
But because YOU want 3rd person and this fellow disagrees, you have to show your WHOLE A$$ and make asinine "IQ" comments.
MWO is HUGE.
This game has more potential than anything on the 'net closely related to it.
Contribute; buy some MC and help the Developers hire more pogrammers. Make suggestions. Make a reasonable argument for your position.
Then let it go.

Er...
I have two indicators, yellow/orange arrows on my compass as well as the dotted line vs. cone of sight on the minimap.
It was confusing at first but not even remotely challenging now, even when playing a high speed light and constantly turning & twisting the torso.
