Therefore, they try to bring something fancy new, that works in other games, to lure new players in.
The only bad point about that ( despite all the other reasons already mentioned) is:
New players don't tell their friends to hurry and join up and create a hype because there is no 3rd... they don't do it because there is no tutorial, just 4 maps and only one single game mode paired with some long persistent and pain in the a.s.s. bugs and a match making, that is not finished!
Only because of this - at least for so many of us - wrong way of 3rd, there is this well deserved s.hit storm!
The point is to not dumb down the game with 3rd. but to fix the bugs and add to the immersion, not to take away from it.
Hook up new players by adding to the immersion!!
Suggestions:
-more game modes and maps
-maybe a faction based ladder system until community warfare ( could be easy implemented on the webpage by the data that is collected anyway )
-a matchmaking, that allows to play with 8 or 12 player groups ( of cause away from pugs) and even select an opponent group ( example: marik drops against DC ) to be able to truly organize tournaments that can cause good publicity in the internet
- much much much more to strengthen the social part of the game ( lobbies, after drop chat and the like)
These would be points to generate hype and to hook up new players that actually stay with the game and get even lured into learning something about battletech if they don't know it until now - and thus is the way to enlarge the BT/MW fanbase that is able and willing to spend money for the paint of their beloved family mech ( just an example) ;-)
