they say they're working on it
but quite frankly, your best bet will be to hop on one of the teamspeak servers and ask someone

Why dont you just ask someone with experience? MMOs are for socializing sometimes.....

we could have a HUGE use of some sort of training room, even just to get in and experiment heat management of the build that we've created or to teach newcomers how to move, aim, and so on..

PGI, here is your problem with new users, not the lack of a 3rd person view. Get a proper in-game tutorial.

Agreed I'm new too, and it took me 2 hours of tinkering with the mechlab until I got a grasp of it.
Without mentioning the hours of diving into the forums searching for a friendly starter mech (and the way to play it) and a decent setup (the descriptions of some components are a bit confusing).

So maybe a control tutorial (it's not easy to figure how to modify the weapon groups), some basic tactics tutorial and a mechlab tutorial will be nice.

Check out either of the public beta TS. Both generally have one or two people relaxing in the education center who are specifically there to answer questions.

Besides that it doesn't hurt to ask on the forums.

Or watch the tutorial video that's all over the home screen in the game?

I agree they need a in game guide as well as a single player mission that teaches you WTF you are supposed to be doing.

They must be working on this but it should be a priority for beta, if we dont know how things are supposed to work how can we give feedback when it isnt working right.

There isn't one cause they are working on other more important things. Most of the info you need is on the forums. I entered this game with zero mechwarrior experience and very limited tabletop experience. First drop didn't know how to group, looked it up. Second drop didn't know how to lock my LRMs, looked it up. A little leg work on your part of the controls is all that you need to do. Then take your mech onto the field of battle and learn how to play it. There are some great guides on the basic roles of each mech if you just look around the forums a little. Or if you are running into trouble post a question onto the forums or reddit

Well, allow me to play devil's advocate for a bit..

The reason for the lack of any real "training grounds" or proper turorials is: The game is still changing pretty much with every patch, and may get the core mechanics changed or even substituted at short notice.

Making and updating an in-depth tutorial would be a gross mismanagement or resources that are better spent on getting the game to function properly on time.
Wouldn't you agree?

There probably will be a "practice match" option in the future, all told, but until then we have to help each other out by means of the forums.

So if you're wondering about some numbers, don't hesitate to ask a teammate or read some of the excellent threads here or elsewhere.

New User Flow and Trial Mechs...

Quote

Posting a Coming Soon Thread.

Lots of cool stuff to talk about.

Rule changes for Trial Mechs, Achievements, smoother, more fun, first user experience. All coming to an MWO near you.

(Yes I'm sorry for teasing you... well, not really.. ;) )

Hopefully, with that thread from Bryan, they'll be adding something soon...

Just a one time splash screen or a tooltip would be nice. I didn't realize where you could even buy suits because I thought the "create new suit" button was just mouse-over tab label for the slot. If I hadn't asked someone in the middle of a battle, I would have just assmed that nothing besides the trainers was implemented yet. That is not something they want; people testing a tiny subset of the implemented gameplay. That's bad for players and it's bad for unearthing bugs.

Same here. This is the FIRST MW title I've played, with the exception of an OLD (think Tandy computers) 3PS game that sucked. I played some TT BTech, but not a LOT. None once the clans were on the scene. Sometimes, you gotta dive in to the forums and drag a net through for a couple hours to figure out what you're doing. Then you make your first drop, get PWNed a lot, and go BACK to the forums. Rinse, repeat. After a day or two of moderate playing time, you should have it figured out.

As I'm learning the hard way, this is NOT any other FPS I've played. But it's not so different that it's tough to learn the basics...

There is a intro video made by No Guts No Galaxy.

http://mwomercs.com/...raining-grounds

Some things in this video will be out of date. Like the trial mech listings for example. However it gives the basics off the game.
