I did not pay money for this game in the sense you are thinking. I paid money to help support PGI financially to help resurrect a franchise I love.

I was thinking along these lines when I bought in.

But at this point, I'm worried that it's not really happening. PGI got enough money from the Founders' program to double or triple their development staff and really get this thing rolling. Unfortunately, it seems like they're not doing that.

Maybe all the devs are working on big behind the scenes things, but the output of fixes and new features seems like two or three people working full time instead of a couple dozen like I'd expect.

It's an indie company, but let's not forgot that they're now an indie company with several million in liquid cash.

I got into beta well before the founder entry date.

Still and all, I paid for the elite level founder option in the first day that the founder's program opened.

I am a huge fan of Battletech, and have been since 1985. I am thrilled at what this game could be, and do not regret my investment. I also expect that I will continue to support the game over time, but right now I am still living off my founders MC.

Glad I was able to contribute something to what is still a very promising game. I've certainly got my 60$ worth so far.

I wish that I had been able to go for the Legendary Founder package, but the demands of a family kept me from having the spare cash. If it was still available it would be a purchase I would happily make right now.

I did not pay for a game. I donated money to a company that was revitalizing a game based off of one of my favorite fictional settings, Battletech. I loved the Mechwarrior titles. Well I had fun with MW4 did not love it. I was ecstatic when I saw the MW5 trailer.

THe money I gave to PGI was no different than the kick starter donations I gave to Shadowrun Returns, and Shadowrun Online. Or PBS. The founder mechs, and premium time is my coffee mug and tote bag. They also gave me the opportunity to be a closed beta tester. I played it so I can take part in the discussion that gave the devs feedback about the game so they can make it better.

The best part of the whole thing is seeing a ton of people my age who love battletech and mechwarrior.

I say money well donated.

Not especially. I liked what I saw in the beginning, which prompted me to spend the cash. I looked at it as an investment, albeit with no dividend save for some good old fashioned slobberknocker mech action whicle catching up with guys I used to drop in MW3 and 4 with.
But the events of the past few weeks have left me sitting here thinking I should have just spent the money on new paintball equipment. And I don't see myself spending any more money with a company that can't seem to find the *** on an Atlas even with over 3000+ people telling them where it is.

Oh well. Lesson learned. Sucks I lost the cash, but at least no one in the house is going to go hungry as a result.

You know we've gotten 3 free weeks of premium, right? And that PGI is giving us a button to start our premium time whenever we want?

It's MechWarrior.

Dang straight I'm happy to have paid to play this Beta.

I think of buying a founders pack as a donation to bring back one of my favourite games of all time. If they had a founders back for $200 I would have bought it. I'll probably definitely be spending more money on MC too.

Just waiting for somebody to reboot MechCommander....

I am happy, but also, I am NOT happy I spent money into this game. Why? Well, firstly, lets talk on the Happy.

Happy:
Giving money freely to help a small company develop a game in a franchise I absolutely LOVE.
Getting a huge mech that I can use that has its perks XD

UNHAPPY:
The potential addition of a game breaking, core pillar breaking 3rd person. Makes me wonder if my trust was adequately placed. Decidedly NOT correctly placed IF they do add 3rd person.

That's not what I'm getting at. You'll see the reaction when they lose premtime.

Oh, OK, yeah, I do wonder how bad the grind is going to be once premium time is lost. Nevertheless, a couple months of C-bills saved up (or spent on 'mechs), would reduce the grind considerably. Get bored of one 'mech? Hop into another.

Short answer...yes.

As with others in this thread, I didn't buy a Founder's package to get access to the beta. I was already a beta tester before the Founder's program started. I didn't do it for the shiny new mech or the premium time, though both of those are nice.

I bought a Founder's package because it was a good way to support a company that is returning a beloved franchise to the PC, a franchise I have supported since '84. While I am not always happy with the direction the developers choose to go, I didn't expect to be. I expect the developers to work towards what will make the game great for the majority of users, not to cater to my whims. If they did the game would be set in 3015, you wouldn't be able to modify mechs, you could only pilot in 1st person, and I wouldn't have to put up with Clanner bs for another 35 years.

But I'm an old Grognard. What do I know?

Very happy! I have always supported BattleTech/Mechwarrior products. I am more happy so many others did as well; this will hopefully entice the builders of this fantastic game to continue to make it better and add so much more... the potential is huge on this baby.

that potential is gone if they break a core design pillar. sad to say
