I'm happy. I knew what I was getting in to. It said BETA on the box and I said "Yes please". I did not expect anything more than what I've gotten so far. That being said I really hope they stick to their core design philosophy. They said "We're going to make a Mechwarrior's Mechwarrior" and that's why I paid. I would not be happy to see them turn away from that vision with features such as 3rd person.

I would swear I've seen this poll somewhere...

Though I suppose the answer might change a bit at each stage, I'll give it that. Mine has not. Still here and not in a trollish way.

Yes. Sort of.

I was in beta long before founders. I gave them my money as an act of faith so that I may have a game to continue playing. I invested my money and my return has been many months of fun.

BUT. I have not been entirely happy since open beta. I do not think the game was ready. There are aspects of the game which have changed, mostly because PGI is listening to the wrong crowd. I predicted that the changes to 4 man drops would please no one, the sudden back flip on 3rd person is another issue, net code and hit boxes is another. I understand we have to hook new players and get them spending money but I am beginning to feel that the opinions of the 50000 people who invested money are being ignored and the game we all love is starting to become another FPS clone. PGI sold us a vision that we all though would be great given time and now that vision is changing at probably the most critical time in this games life. I see Nov 20th as a make or break day for MWO. I can see amongst our own unit, numbers dropping in the amount of time being played. A lot of things had better be made better or these forums are going to explode with people asking for refunds.

I will never ask for my money back as I have had my value already, but if PGI start scaring away the die hard fans (which they are), the ones most likely to spend money, to cater for those who expect nothing less than instant gratification and a win in the first match they play, then this game is doomed. Those people will only ever be here for a short time anyway.

As has been stated many times elsewhere, a tutorial and a practice arena, and some sort of experience level match making, will solve a great many of the issues plaguing player retention.

PGI are concentrating on the wrong issues at the expence of everything else and it's killing the game.

And please provide an argument to your answer, thank you!

I am quite pleased where the game is so far. Providing they really aren't going ot just ramshackle us all down with some horrid 3rd person. If it really is going to be some kind of training wheels thing that falls away after a certain period of time then I'm good to go.

I haven't regretted spending money on this title. The way I see it I pre ordered the game effectively, got into the closed beta, now open beta. And am getting a nice little head start towards figuring out what I want to roll mechwise and what I want those said mechs armed with.

PGI has done a good job overall so far. And for anyone that says I must be high or out of my mind let me explain.

I came from playing STO pvp. Where the devs literally did nothing with it for Three Years, but promised every major patch that in the next major patch pvp would get some love. Infact the devs of that game even took away a game mode. There are only three arena maps on the entire game. One of those maps is so badly coded that even a ludicrously powerful gaming rig is brought to it's knees, repeatedly. To say nothing of the Travesty that game quickly became after it went f2p. It went from questionable to straight up Open Your Wallet And Win, with no in game way to earn some of the best ships in the game and best wargear. None.

These clowns also were so incompetent that they would deny the existence of game breaking bugs, and exploits to the point even mentioning their existence would get you a perma ban. And are so incapable of doing even basic math, that you could break everything down, and even go so far as make Pretty Graphs and the response would be "I don't understand why is this a problem. Clearly you don't know how to spec your character resistances work!"

Said Resistances Quite literally Not Working.
more non functioning resistances.

And they would be in Denial of this. Even when shown video footage. Even if you broke down and made a 2 page synopsis to go with the said videos. They would still Derp It Up.

For every whine thread I see on here I can only think in the back of my head "Ya'll should have been in STO. You'd have had a coronary." almost every single time.

Being a high end pvper over there was a very sad affair for the last year and a half. Because most everyone with Talent, jumped ship after they realized that the game was never going to get better. And the pugs? Oh god. Imagine being in a 2 laser Jenner, (with no other weapons on!) and being able to kill all 8 of an enemy team solo. That is how bad STO pugs were for the last year and a half. Some of us stayed, in the vain hope (Or perhaps because we were rather Spiteful at that point and decided to ''not let craptic win by getting rid of us'') that we could continue having fun with our friends exclusively and maybe teach the pugs how to game, and maybe just maybe get enough people playing again to make the dumb devs stop neglecting pvp in a game that had 0 end game content.

I don't really care, because I wasn't foolish enough to hand them 120 dollars.
The whole thing was akin to retail payment for any other game, except this one came with silly amounts of benefits.

It's a little unfair to call all us legendary founders 'foolish' we all had our reasons for legendary, for me it was to help this game become what I've always wanted and piloting a mech once again of course! and fingers crossed this game is slowly becoming what we all want, without our donations would this be able to happen? If I'm honest I only use my Founders atlas, the other 3 had some weapons sold or used on my atlas, nothing gets wasted in my hanger.

I have spent a lot more that £70 on games like SWG and looked what happened there. I have to have faith And trust in PGI because its a franchise I love and with my 'foolish Legendary Founders' donation I give PGI the best chance possible.

I do not regret my investment. There were several factors that went in, from the altruistic resurrection of a franchise, to the more pragmatic math of buying in now versus later, as well as the perk of the premium mech.

Some days I have a lot of fun, and some days issues with lag spikes and mysterious net code problems frustrate me immensely. That said, we are in an actual beta state, rather than the 'open beta' we see used as a marketing ploy. So long as progress is made, and the product continues to improve, I'm staying on for the ride.

I quit 2 times with STO a good ways before f2p. I quit for 2 months once, and then 6 months, before f2p hit. I went back and gave them another set of chances post f2p (and didn't ever give them $ again.). (I would like to say it's because I'm a forgiving and patient soul. But I know better. I went back because I missed my friends. Most of which are now over here... ) Once I found out about this game and played it at a friends place during closed beta. I immediately bought my founders pack when I got home and started playing. Since Open Beta, I have spent a grand total of maybe 2 hours in STO. Most of which was spent talking to people in organizedpvp chat, and working the crowd over to win even more converts over to this game.

Yes, I have made it one of my personal missions to help kill STO once and for all now. Especially with the last major patch they did which has turned the game into an overpriced asian grinder Sub Bargain Bin title. (It was Bargain Bin grade before f2p for those wondering)

Dude they didn't just shoot Old Yeller, they then urinated and tea bagged the corpse. I still read their joke of a pvp forum (and a couple of the lolpve forums) and it's amazing just how snide and condescending the devs are and what I had to stomach for 3 years. Coming over here, was like being an abused spouse or something and realizing just how bad you really had it before.

It's all good though. We have this game. (Providing they don't become Cryptic 2.0 on us at any rate :( ) Starwars is going f2p now. Guild wars2 is out on the market now. And as an added bonus the overall tone of those forums has taken a nose dive. The Cryptic Defense Force is even attacking the devs now. It's on it's way out. Once it dies maybe we can get another ST game, made by better devs, and with a clear cut focus.

man, at the rate OUR devs are going, we ARE Cryptic 2.0 :( look at all the things we say need fixed, all the things we suggest on how to give the phantom whiners their fix of leg/torso orientation w/out breaking the game, and yet, they ignore us all, and do what ever the hell they want at our expense!

side note: i miss my Negh'Var, she was a beauty, so was my fully borged up Excelsior class, faster and more nimble than ANYONE expected XD

They say this next patch coming up is going to give us alot of stuff (I heard a new game mode too?). I'm hoping the needed lag shield fix is in there too (it'd be nice to use something other than streaks to pop jenners.... just sayin). 8 man premades again, with the 4 man for pugging still. We're getting the Cataphract which allegedly is a heavy brawler (I'd love to see how THAT works honestly. with the way game dynamics are at present you either go Speed, or Super Armor in the middle of a furball... anything else is a skirmisher.).

Worst case scenario, is I drop this game for a while, and sub up to RIFT and buy their first expansion. And just keep tabs on things here. I see enough progress made frequently enough, that I'm not giving up hope here. They already did more in the short time I've been playing this game than Cryptic did in 3 years you know?

I miss my Advanced Escort, but the Jem Hadar Attack ship, pretty much put the kaibosh on it's viability (so I had to go to the MVAM... which was the same ship just with an ens, and lt tac.. and lt cmdr sci) and I miss my Vorcha Retrofit. (and later Fleet vorcha which had the lt cmdr tac) Totally Sexy Ships. I miss the core aspects of STO's gameplay still too. I haven't deleted a single pvp vid on my youtube channel and I catch myself watching them sometimes and wondering just how in the hell could they have not realized the Amazing Potential pvp had in that game.

If i had had the money at the time i would have gone for the Legendary package but i didnt and took the Elite. I don't see it as buying into the beta, but investing into the company and a IP that i have loved since being a child.

Am i happy i invested my money in the game - YES.

Ok yes is still has issues and bugs but we are still in beta, and having played MMO's and multilayer games for 15 odd years (and worked in games industry for a short period of time), i know that they will always have these issues of balancing and bugs. This is our job as alpha & beta testers to test the game, report the bugs so they can be fixed/balanced and at the end of the day get a better game for us to play.

I've also invested in WarZ, Star Citizen and a few others.

Yes, it was worth it. I got into the closed beta I might otherwise not have gotten in to, which gave me time to learn a considerable amount of important information. I got to run around in big stompy robots with my friends at a time when I was rather bored with most the other game titles I had, and uninterested in most of the games I don't have. I got 4 customizable mechs at open beta which allowed me to sell off parts for 3 of them and outfit the one I wanted to use to grind out c-bills with my favorite loadout. I got 2+ weeks of free premium time at open beta which allowed me to obtain the necessary c-bills to purchase and outfit the mechs I needed in order to completely unlock the pilot trees for Dragons, Centurions, and Catapults. I have 20000 MC to spend on mech bays and whichever cosmetic items that become available that I actually want.

I got to be a small part of generating over 5 million dollars in revenue (calculated by the ability to use the search function to sort the users in the game by legendary, elite, and veteran founders status), for a game in development that I really want to see succeed so that I can play it for years to come.

It's worth it because I have made a large number of new friends, and am enjoying a good game the has the potential to become great. We just need the QQ brigade to quit, so the properly made feedback can get through to the Devs.

This is a weird poll, because no one spent money for a beta, we spent money for a game. We and people who didn't spend a cent get to play the beta.

You should really rephase your question.

On that note, i'm happy on what I spent. I cant imagine playing mechwarrior in a trial mech with that slow grind to even get your first customizable mech. That's my only gripe. It's hard to talk my friends into playing when what is given free is very very very lame. There needs to be more given for the new players.

Either a free mech of their choice, or triple funds for the first 5 million credits earned. Give that to everyone, trials and founders alike. 5 million is NOTHING in this game, but what it is, is the taste of the first mech you will buy and give people a chance to see the customization without days of grinding on trial mechs.

I'm not answering the obviously biased poll question, or the at best misguided question in the OP, but I will say that I'm quite happy to have donated $120 towards the development of this game.

PGI has made piloting 'mechs fun, so fun in fact that winning or losing matches is almost secondary; just puttering around in your 'mech of choice is great fun.

Will I pay more for this game? Yes, I think I will. If it continues to develop at the pace it's doing and in the direction it is going it will become one hell of a game in the not-so-distant future. And one can't have too much MC, can one? :(

I personally feel that I was misled into thinking i was paying to get into a game that not* only was working and looked good, but was almost ready to go live. I got duped.
Dear mods, here's another issue i have with the game as described by the OP.
