This idea looks like a bottle of water will cause a short circuit or a wooden stick will kill the cogwheels.
Maybe needs some fine tuning... but I would love to drive... walk... stomp to university with such a thing every day.
But maybe a liiiitle bit off topic though.

It has no outer skin as of yet, however the materials they are using are incredibly sturdy... mostly from struts from very large jets and the like. They also have programming teams working on the driving software.

I'm pretty sure there is some Japanese company that makes "mechs". More like little walkers, from the pics I saw on the Escapist. Still taller than a person, but incredibly slow. And it had a toy minigun.
Yeah, it is a civvie plaything, not a proper battlemech.
Scrap that, found the link, but I'm sure I've seen a larger one.

Doesn't seem to be the one I was on about anyway. No toy minigun with foam rounds.

Those videos do look like a neat toy, but yeah, not walking, it is rolling along.
MechPS are building the real thing... large enough for a man/woman to sit in the cockpit, strong enough to really mount steel plate armor, real legs with biped style walking (bird like) and arms that could aim weapons if it had them... and they are writing software to allow computer assist movement, not just manual controls (not real neurohelmets... but still awesome) =)
