About this patch... well...

Streak cats are back. And there's more gauss.

Why are streak cats back?

What made them bring those back? Did people miss those? (it's funny because those aimbots don't miss) am I missing something? Did people wish they were back? Is this PGI making us used to 3rd person by subjecting to another kind of torture? Is this the rumored "catapult love" rearing its ugly head? Are we destined to have Catapults as our dark overlords until the day the game dies?

I don't think I've ever been this baffled and confused on the forum before, and I have the internet :) .

And there's more gauss.

You have to get used to the return of the streak cats. For some reason the last patch killed fps for lots of users.
First map I got after the patch was the snow version of the tree map. First I wondered about why something was
different but I could not really pick it out. Then I understood that it was simply lower fps that did it. I was getting
kinda nauseous by looking at the screen. The lower fps also hurt my aiming and I did worse than I should have
done several times in close combat.

The direct counter to that is a streak cat. It compensates aiming trouble because of low fps.

I chose No and Yes because I am somewhere in the middle. I want more, I want good path releases. We can't have both as often as we are getting patches I think. UNtil I see my House emblem and affiliation attached to my name I knwo I am in Beta, so I continue to test.

Dude, we got new modules, ECM, and a brand spanking new mech with 4 variants. I'm pleased as punch.

Since I just disco'd to desktop I have time to chime in. I'm ok with the minor glitches. I could care less about the cataphract, but having more mechs isn't a bad thing.

The problem is, PGI over promises. Phase I is a joke and it's still 4 man drops only. The maps are too few and too small. The base-cap game is TIRED.

So, while it's "Fun", I get bored with it and find myself switching to other games frequently. I'm not the only one. A lot of our hard-core players were dwindling under Phase I. They were on for about an hour today then left to play other games.

Which reminds me, time for some RO2!

RO2 had the same issue as this game does. When it first came out it was filled with bugs and glitches that killed game play. Now RO2 is playable just needs more content esp. Tanks. I think if this happens my unit {SHD} will be back their in full force.

You've got to be kidding me.

This theory could hold some water if streaks were adequate, but they're not. They're superior to most other mech builds, whether you have low fps or not.

Letting no-skill-ceiling weapons be superior to skill-indexed ones is nothing but terrible game design. I understand letting people with worse PCs play (and I sympathize, my laptop can barely move this game as it is), but letting everyone steamroll 2-4 mechs of a different config, without aiming, merely by holding A/D+left mouse button+tapping spacebar a few times is terrible.

Why learn to use anything, handle your heat, or aim, if the best config in the game does everything for you regardless of your PC's performance?

1. This is BETA, you act like this is release. Beta content is always changing, and there are lots of bugs that need fixed in beta because it's not finished yet!

2. I'm running this game on HIGH with a nVidia 9800 GTX and I have no issues whatsoever with performance.

3. No game goes somewhere FAST, they take time to develop. There are no fast food restaurants in PC gaming.

4. Bugs take time to fix, and they have to be careful they don't break something else in the process. They also have to isolate the line or lines of code causing the bug and that takes TIME. Be patient. They'll fix it when they figure out the problem and code a solution that doesn't create more bugs or break the game.

5. It is playable now, I'm having a blast. If you want to quit until release, go ahead. But I am BETA TESTING this game and helping the devs develop the game. The reason why a lot of you open beta players were allowed into the beta was because PGI needed your data. And no, I did not buy my closed beta key, I got in before I ever spent a dollar on this game and once in, I was impressed with the quality and gameplay so decided to become a Founder.

Patience young beta tester. All good things come to those who wait.

I'm happy with the patch content. with fortnightly patches I'm not expecting huge bounds.

I'm a little disappointed with the 10fps I lost though... might have to drop to high settings  hope they hurry with dx11and make this look REALLY pretty :)

Negatives

The content level of this game is sub-par. To be frank, it is justifiable for a free game but not for a premium account. In addition I think a lot of the setups are psychotic. To have to dump a huge amount of money in MC to make premium account reasonably priced per month is going to shy a lot of gamers away. I am a middle-class adult, mid-30s, and though I have it, my wife would have my *** in a sling if I dumped $100 on an online game in a month. The fallout from doing so right now isn't worth it with this games content. IF you are a young man, working at a pizza parlor for a 100 bucks a week, there is not much chance that you are going to have this to blow. 15 bucks a month is the standard, and more than reasonable and should be a flat rate. Furthermore, to even justify 15, in my opinion, this game has to offer more to its players. There are a lot of other online games, RPGs, FPSs and a host of other sub-genres that are offering much more for less. I have been a big online gamer since some of the first ones came out, I am old after all. This, so far is not the best attempt I have seen and does not warrant $$$ on yet. I want some serious entertainment value for my dollar if I am going to dump several hundred dollars into this game in one year.

Positives

The game is fun, the interface and controls are intuitive and easy to pick up but mastering the game play is tough (as I still get my *** handed to me on more than half of my games). The graphics are competitive and things look as good as any other online game that I have seen. Team play pays off which I think is essential for any type of multiplayer game (reason I hate 'The Old Republic', like playing a 1 person game with other people running around, team play completely devoid). The game has lots of personalization and customization. It gives a lot of chance for experimentation which makes the game more interesting. Figuring out a build and mech that works for you, the combinations are endless.

They should focus on bug fixes and optimization. Can't make money if no one can play well. Low fps every patch and bugs non stop. I am willing to wait on content as long stuff get fixed.

I really can't vote...
Do you think this patch is good content for the wait?
Well yes. While it's not perfect and am getting some bugs I never had before, all patches are welcome. It did bring good, just not enough to please us all. So it's both yes and no.

Are you happy with PGI's Patches
As said above, generally am happy. Not completely, but cannot say that am am terribly sad. So... also both yes and no.

Should things be better? Why yes!
If things can be better? Maybe, am not a specialist.

Correction. Yes, F2P games, and MMOs in particular, continue to release new content after release. I mean, look at some of the older MMOs like Maplestory (bad example, but I've played it, so I'm going to roll with it). You still get a big patch every month or two, which expands the game out much wider. Beta does NOT imply the game is finished, however. You get that impression from the companies like EA and Activision, giving out Beta codes left right and center for hardcore players. I just started playing BF3. Now I hear Battlefield 4 has beta codes going out. Is the game finished? By your logic, yes. EA has finished a completely new Battlefield game in around two years and are now getting outsiders to play it. Is it finished? By most people's logic, no. It's Closed Beta. Minecraft was released in Alpha for public use. Look how it turned out.

Im not saying beta is simply a demo, i'm saying officially, beta is where you have a near final product with almost all content complete. What you thinking of is an alpha, where a game is playable, but still in the process of having its foundations made.

Also, by my logic, yes battlefield 4 is very close to completion. Because it is. All they have left to do is tidy up some animations add some flare here and there then start balancing the game with internal testers. Thats closer to done than this game is. We are missing several core mechanics in this 'beta'. Im saying that 'beta' is being used as an excuse for things that it shouldn't be. Bugs are to be expected, but the structure of the game should be done. Period.

You call for patience, I call for better communication. I understand patches or features within patches being delayed, but what I don't understand is waiting until the day of the patch, then waiting until after the patch hits, with features missing, to announce delays of said features.

Example: Phase 2 of matchmaking. PGI had on their timeline that Phase 2 was 11/20. Then the patch came and there was no mention of it in the patch notes. Only after the patch was active was the timeline updated a later date. They made no announcement of the delay, they simply updated an old post changing the 11/20 to 12/04. And now it is listed as "80%" probability (?) of being on 12/04. Why not make an announcement prior to the 11/20 patch updating everyone instead of leading us to believe up until the time the patch went active that we would actually see Phase 2 implemented on 11/20? Obviously if they are only "80%" certain, at this point, that Phase 2 will make it for 12/04 they were 10000% positive it wouldnt make 11/20 long before 11/20.

I think better communication would go a long long way. How about a little heads up on MAJOR delays such as the Phase 2 debacle? Wouldn't it have been better to make an announcement on say, 11/15, that Phase 2 was going to be delayed? Instead of leading us all to believe it was on track up until the point we get in game post patch and realize it is missing?

Can you imagine in any part of your life that it would be ok to give a completion date for something that is WEEKS away, and then at 5pm on the alleged completion date you say, oh man we didn't quite make it, we need another 2 weeks and we can only say with 80% certainty that 2 weeks will be enough we may not make that either... like you didnt know you wouldnt make it a week before the original completion date?

1: yea, i was p***ed as well, that the performance was getting worse and worse and worse with every patch...yesterday i reinstalled the game from zero (like some others suggested) , and it runs fine again

2: sure they could be faster, if they were a 150 - 300 people major company-team... but they aren´t, and - someone above said - it´s still a beta, and content updates are only a part of LOT´s of work going on... believe me guys, it´s easy for us to judge them, here at home, in front of our entertainment machine, in our warm and cosy livingrooms... but i am very sure that reality at PGI´s studios look very different from what some of us seem to believe...

well, yea communitactions WAS way better during CBT...it´s funny to realize, that communication from PGI got lessand less, the more ranting, rampaging and entitled demanding people got into the forums, ripping apart every single part of the game, denying any progress with only the look on the dark side...

plus i think, they just are way more buisy now that open beta is running, just because they need to keep us happy, what is very very hard as i can see

I'm just happy I got to play this NOW instead of having to wait for another year or so.

Are things perfect?

Nope but when I read that they were releasing as an Open Beta in the true sense of the phrase as opposed to how it is used these days, it kinda hinted that things may be a little rough and ready.

Communication-wise, things could be better but PGI is not the worse at this that I've ever seen so I'm not too fussed except on one or two points that have me really puzzled.

I got hooked on MPBT: 3025 Beta and my only concern is how this game will differ from what it currently is when it is final. However, economics are economics and there will be no game if this doesn't make money or can't demonstrate that it has the potential to do so.

Whether I'd want to play it in its final form remains to be seen but in the meantime, I'll try help with the bug chasing and enjoy this as much as I can.

TL; DR

Patches every 2 weeks? Thumbs up
Communication about what will be in next patch - meh, could be better (to help ease disappointment if nothing else).
