Idea behind the "purpose" of the Clan Invasion in game.

The Devs/staff play as the Clans and we are the IS?
We are in game, in a match/mission and we start getting radar hits, amidst our engagment. There is chatter like mad across the wire. (Player Vent/TS explode with explatives and awe, shock, excitment)
Confusion, we stop fighting each other, as new targets, unknown mechs appear on radar, unknown drop ships start their final approach.
Our Aerospace fighters flying cover are eliminated effortlessly by unidentified fighters.
The Batchall issued across all of our Comms!
Commanders panic because they don't know how to handle this new threat and their orders aren't being followed because their subordinates are breaking ranks and running!
Scouts panic because they can't identify the strange units or get a lock, but have eyes on!
Assaults panic because thier armor is being shredded from unheard of ranges!
I think I would love to be in that situation, have it unfold, a "real world" event in game. Some of us are captured, having a chance to become a Bondsman then maybe a Abtakha.
Just some thoughts to chew on.

If/when the clans come, chances are new Mechs and Tech will come with it.
I have a feeling though, because there is enough of a sect against it or just blissfully happy with the status quo, that when Clan tech comes, PGI will add the ability to filter games to pure IS Tech only and IS + Clan tech.

This. I mean seriously, many of us would know exactly what mechs we were facing and the ranges would be expected, as opposed to "un-heard of".

"It is common for commanding officers of opposing Clans to send each other data on all their warriors before a battle."
It would be interesting, before a battle loads in an IS vs IS match (read this as after launch) only your teams composition shown.
However when the Clans invade a Clan Mech heavy team will have its config displayed to the other team or to each other if they are also Clan heavy.

The lance heads out to see what the hell is in the basin below.
Dropships, mobile field bases, mechs, armor and all are being deployed.
Eventually all forces in the area go into passive and activate and use any element of stealth.
A scout is ordered to stay behind, and the lance retreats.
They take up positions on nearby hills, and key ambush areas, but these mercs do not know who the hell these guys are.
The first of the enemies start to approach the ambush zone and are just a few scouts that are the first victims.
All hell breaks loose, and the mercs start losing men, fast.
The lance commander retreats with his surviving scout and 1 medium class mech.
They head back to the nearest friendly base, and the whole place is burning down.
The invasion of Terra has begun.

I kinda hope they don't, even though you can count me among the pure IS Tech crowd (I actually prefer 3025 Tech). Splitting the community is never a good idea for an MMO, and especially not for one that is PvP-focused. I'd rather play with Clanners than have a reduced community in my chosen playstyle.

Also, there's the 'fiends' and family of the devs... all told, the number of players they can recruit who can keep their mouths shut until the invasion happens is a lot larger than just the number of devs. And of course, there may be AI, too. Perhaps the PGI side will command lances of AI Clan 'Mechs?
And there's nubnub. Never forget nubnub. Never underestimate nubnub.

At least one person understood it.
Factually speaking according to Canon we all know the when/where/who and why.
I am speaking in regards to this time line of MWO as has been stated they are meaning to reboot the game.
Which means they can take certain liberties that could in fact suprise we the players.
I understand Devs need to work on issues, but they aren't always working.
I know if I was a Dev/employee of a product company and I had a chance to hop in game for a event I would be all for it as I am sure many of you would.
I am just talking about the day/hour/minutes of the initial hit invasion. We know it probably is coming but we don't know when and where and how.
Or for that matter it may never come and we travel down an alternate path where the Clans if they do make an appearance, not the route/time/way we expect.
People this is Sci-fi, use your imaginations and step out side the limitations of what we know as canon but not that far fetched either.

So what could they do? Many people here can quote chapter and verse on the stats of the mechs. We all know the Clans are coming. So there goes the whole OMGWTFBBQ!! aspect of it. Now having an event featuring the devs would be cool as opposed to just one day there is a patch and done.
Also, those of us who didn't fall all over ourselves saying OMG that's an AWESOME idea still got what you were getting at. We just didn't think it would work that way.
