Ok I seriously understand the idea of selling at a loss. I did the math (because I got bored and only half the people posting here seem to understand I think it is TOO MUCH of a loss) and with all the equipment it is a 55% loss on selling back. My gripe here is I think a 40-45% loss would be a bit more fair/realistic.

If you are a car salesman and someone trades in a car with all options do you remove them and sell it stock? No, you charge more for options already installed. Why would that not apply to mech upgrades?

A couple years back I had a choice. I could buy the model of car I want used or new. I looked at the 2 year old models on this car that retains it's retail value well. They were the same price as a brand new one off the lot because of the upgrades. Brand new without the upgrades had everything I needed so I just bought new. The dealer told me he was having issues selling the used ones because of the price and he couldn't go too much lower without taking a loss because he paid that much for them. So... yeah, upgrades can hurt the ability to sell something. ;)

The only real solution is to spend 300 MC for another MechBay. How could you even think of selling a Mech? Must have a complete collection.

Hopefully they will let me rearrange the order of my Mechs soon.

I go to the car lot today and buy a 40k Lexus, drive it off the lot. Bring it back tomorrow and its only worth half.. yea this is not to far off.. the Kelly Blue book on my jenner said it was worth more but when you have a single buyer they can do what they want..

If you buy a car, drive it less than 100 miles, and then expect to receive half of the price back on it, I've got penty of vehicles to sell you. No one would ever purchase anything other than a Civic if the world actually worked like this.

10 years later and two model changes? Duh. A day? Derp.

Hey OP. If you think that is bad, you should try buying a boat, then reselling it and see what the difference is!

Aslo, buy a new car. It loses 15% of its value the INSTANT you drive it off the dealers parking lot!

Not to mention Diamonds...

"Diamonds are forever".
Because they resell for approximately 10% of their retail value.

If you buy an expensive diamond you are not making an investment, you are throwing money away.

Every time you make a real world analogy, the god of gameplay kills some kittens.
Please, think of the kittens.

Ok, on a more serious note, it has to make sense and it shouldn't be annoying. I couldn't care less about cars or diamonds or whatever. I do care about gameplay and game mechanics being fun.
Many games set the standard selling price to somewhere around 50% of the original value. I'm not surprised if players expect something similar in MWO, especially since even at 50% you'd lose a lot of cash while training up the mech skills.

IRL:
This is like buying a honda for 5000$, keeping it for a couple years, then figuring the car is worth $6000 because of the oil changes you had to pay for.

Post-script:
Going further with this, if you put rims, and a turbocharger on that same honda, the value would more likely drop even more than normal depreciation. No one wants someone else's failed project.

Not my point, my main point is this:
Full cost of Dragon 5N - 5,097,559
Cost of DHS upgrade - 1,500,000
Total spent - 6,597,559
With equipment sells for - 2,319,139
Net loss - 4,278,420 About 65% loss.

Is a 50% return really too much to ask for?

But then you put a new engine (hybrid) in it, give it bulletproof windows and doors, put LCD screens in every seat and upgrade it's electronics. How much is it worth now, hmm?

MWO≠RL
I thought we established this when we introduced PPCs, Railguns (or coilguns, don't know), interstellar flight, superluminal comms, brain-computer interfaces lasers and you know giant stompy robots.

Using RL is just a lame excuse for a broken economy.

And if you're going the economy route, a mech in free market would be worth much, much, much more than it's production cost, since mechs outside houses, corps and family heirlooms are very rare. Hell an 300 year old mech on the free market with bidding would probably sell for at least few times it's original worth.

Selling prices are abysmal. Not worth selling anything unless you really need the bay space or have Mastered that particular variant.

This, unsure ifs a truly intentional way to avoid MC buying C-Bills by stealth though

Yeah this game is F2P but its Economics are very aggressive it seems to the players,This can drive people away if they feel that Effort,Risk for the Reward are not close to being balanced

He's not talking about the base chassis cost, but rather that upgrades like DHS/endo don't reflect in the sale price. Which I agree is very lame, I mean that Jenner with everything should sell for more than 350k...

Yes, but how should this work in the current pay-per-use 'upgrade' system? Does the downgrade also increase the price? Heck, you invested 750000 CB! And perhaps you up- and downgraded numerous times? So, i demand that i get infinite CB for selling my mech, in accordance to prophecy.
