Yeah not to mention shutting down serves absolutely zero purpose.

Absolutely zero you say?

I'm a Jenner, you're a Streak Cat, my goose is cooked quick fast and you know it, I can jink and weave as much as I like but once you've got tone I'm toast. But wait I've just shut down and you're impotent, unaware as you blindly try to hug my Jenner to death that your own doom is approaching. Boom boom and your backside is open, startled you turn around to protect your exposed rear from an unseen assailant, an Atlas D fills your view screen. It's the last thing you see as I power up behind you, forgotten, all six of my small lasers carving their way through your engine.

The scout edged forward cautiously, scanning the treelines, looking for any heat signatures. "It's all clear, nobody here". His lance commander chuckles confidently over open comms "Alright folks move in, this objective is as good as ours. Regroup scouts, they must be heading to our base and we've got to beat them by taking theirs, but I want you ready to break off and block their attempt if need be".
The ground shakes as the lance approaches the enemy beacon, thoughts of c-bills, warm showers and a hot meal, comms discipline is relaxed, and jokes are shared. They spread out around the beacon, a Hunchback pilot discharges a laser at the scout in a Commando, all in good fun.
No one is paying attention.
Just beyond the tree line a flock of birds takes flight, as if startled by a predator. The sound of fusion engines coming online drowned out by friendly banter. Suddenly there's a flash, the commando scout is vaporised in an instant. The friendly banter is stopped "SQUAAAAAWWKKK, This is the Word of Lowtax, power down your engines and be spared!".

Hmmm... me thinks you should learn more about gameplay mechanics before talking about them.

Really? Why would I want to shut down in the middle of a battle? Please inform me of the advantages that provides?

It does break LRM and Streak Locks. If you have LRMS coming in and get behind cover you can shut down, start up and move.
Also, you can set ambushes with shut down mechs.

May not want to shut down while under direct fire, but it can occassionaly be advantageous.

Indirect LRMs won't be able to target you.
Streak SRMs can't target you.

PGI, please fix whiny and clueless players!

In all seriosness we need some dedicated whine forum to make general forum pleasant to read.

Oh... excuse me. For a moment I forgot the game was perfect.

Yeah because it's LRMs and Streaks I have to worry about and not all the ACs, Lasers, and Guass rifles.

This thread is about a bug... a VERY annoying bug, not the viability of shutting down in the middle of a fight.

Game is far from perfect.
But it is players what is much worse.

I am well aware that you are not the first person to say this....the title is simply the only reason or motivation you actually give for fixing the bug. I do not think it is a very good reason to act on anything. Was just saying....

Actually that's not the reason for fixing it. It's more a figure of speech than anything. The fact it being a bug is reason enough.

Oh I get it now... It's my fault that the game has bugs. It all makes sense now! So because I highlighted a bug that has been around since the game has been playable, I'm a bad player?

As I said, it was the only one given, you not only want bugs fixed, you want this one prioritized. Anyway this as far as I am going explaining this, I was mostly expecting the comment to be ignored and fairly obvious in its meaning..
I do not disagree that the bug should be fixed, I do not think it is that bad of an issue myself, but then again I do not overheat all that often and simply powering down and back up again will fix it, so you only need to make it to the nearest wall if there are multiple people on you and you cannot tell who your team is.
