I am just finishing taking college algebra, so I'm going to make a Gauss boat named "Gaussian Elimination".

CPLT-C4 is named STEEL RAIN to reflect its LRM built capability and reveal its function to fellow players :]

As Malzel, named after Johann Malzel, German inventor who made famous the Turk, (an automated chess-playing machine that was actually an elaborate hoax) all of my 'mechs are or will be named after chess terms or tactics.

- PAWN: a Raven 3L scout w/ TAG
- GAMBIT: a Jenner D flanker/brawler/risk-taker (A gambit is sacrificing a piece early on in hopes of obtaining some advantage from it)
- KNIGHT: a fast, armored Centurion 9-AL PPC sniper
- ROOK: a Hunchback 4G/4H for assault mech support. AC 20 or Gauss to help take down big mechs, lots of lasers to leg sweep circling lights.
- MAROCZY: a Catapult LRM boat (The Maroczy Bind is a formation that allows a player to dominate the open center of the board; opponent has to screen their moves or skirt the edges.)
- ALEKHINE: a Gauss build of some kind (Alekhine's Gun focuses the queen and both rooks on a single column; some serious focused firepower)
- CAISSA: an Atlas of some kind (The Thracian patron goddess of chess)

I'm actually not any good at chess, I just like the theme for at pilot in Battletech universe. We're all just pawns, anyway.

My short range cat is short bow, Lrm boat is long bow and gausscat is sling. (And no, short bow is not a streak one, although it would be easier...)

Edit: To clarify - I own 3 cats atm

Running two Ravens now, the 3L ECM equipped one named Huginn and the other 4X variant equipped with AC/5 and no scouting equipment, Muninn.

Been thinking about getting some quick mediums like Centurion and call them Geri and Freki.

Got a CatC4 named HELWYR, and I had a Drag5N named CRWBAN. Next will probably be an Atlas of some kind named LLEW.

I'll name my raven 3L cheesedoodles. It just seems like a practical name with the spindly legs and all.

I'll also name my jenner JR-D: high jumper. I'll add an extra jump jet to make it live up to it's name a little more. :)

After that I'll name my commando 2D zippy cause I'll put an XL engine on it.

You've probably noticed that all my other posts so far have been about light mechs. That's my favorite class of them. (it's true!)

Will name my Atlas Elli (Old Age) as a reference to a challenge Thor failed to overcome, albeit barely, in a myth where he went to the Land of Giants and was decieved by their king Utgard-Loki.

Quote

It was also a great marvel concerning the wrestling-match, when thou didst withstand so long, and didst not fall more than on one knee, wrestling with Elli; since none such has ever been and none shall be, if he become so old as to abide "Old Age," that she shall not cause him to fall.

I've been very "inventive" in naming my Cataphracts.

Kataphraktos, Clibanarius, and the like. All names for essentially the same thing, but in different languages: a cataphract. ;)
