The rules of the thread are simple:
The Mech should fit in with the theme, or be related in some way through either the visual design or the employment on the battlefield. If you have an idea for a theme you'd like to see please send it to me in a private message.

The Mech should be something you draw specifically for the challenge, not something you already had lying around.

Art can be 2D, 3D, in any medium you prefer. They can be rough sketches, vector line art, full color, what have you. ALL SKILL LEVELS ARE WELCOME!!!

WIP shots are allowed, but please keep the thread clean and only poster another WIP if you have made significant progress.

This week's challenge: Supersize Me, redesign an existing light or medium mech as a heavy or assault version of that mech.

this warms my Steiner heart!

Might be a few days before progress is seen, since I have Black Thursday/Friday/Saturday to survive first!

I know you want clean sheet designs, but does actually making a design based off an old (like 10+ years) concept fit the parameters?

They're more what you'd call guidelines than actual rules anyway

That's pretty awesome, I love that name. :-) I'm about to go browse Sarna for inspiration, I'm glad I stopped by here first!

While my drawing skills aren't the best, I think I want to see if I can bang together a sketch for a Flee. Assault/Heavy class Flea, possibly a quad 'mech.

Agh, I started making a Flea assault variant too. I guess that's what I get for not telling anyone I'm going to participate.
Can't wait to see your version of the 'mech though, and it's gonna be good to see how people imagine the same subject. ;)

Can't wait to see everyone else's designs. It was actually a lot harder than I thought it would be to pack 60 extra tons of bulk on a raven, so I'm curious as to how you guys tackle the challenge.

OK, somebody had to do it. May I present, the Streetsweeper:

Armed to the lid with one AC20, an LB-X AC20, four SRM4s (with a missile flap and 10% armor bonus), and a medium pulse laser, this grown up UrbanMech packs a punch disproportionate to its 32kph max run speed. :-)

Made in MS paint while at work today (BUSY DAY!) and stats set up in REMLAB

It's the 60 ton SuperCommando, designed to be as fast as the Dragon, but more survivable and better for close support, while still having long range capability.

8.5 tons of Ferro Fibrous, Endo Steel chassis, 12 total double heatsinks, 3 SRM6 (Right arm, Right Torso, Left Torso) with 3 tons of ammo protected by CASE in the right torso, and an ER PPC (left arm). Powered by a 300 Standard Fusion engine, with 2 jumpjets to allow clearing obstacles for ambush/escape tactics. Essentially its role is meant to be a cross between the Dragon and the Commando in terms of hit and run harassment with brawling capability.

That's damn fine work on the Commando! I didn't realize you could do things like that in Paint... I think it might be underrated. :-)

So I had some time today, and I have another submission... the Alpha Locust:
Posted Image

The design is loosely based on two of the older pictures for the Locust on Sarna, but not much more than the general location of weapons and a bit of the legs. The idea for this mech is that it's the Locust, but it's been sized up to 50 tons. It is armed with:

1x UAC5 (Chin mount, assigned to RT)
4x MdLas (LT, RT, RA)
2x SSRM2 (LT)
C3 Slave

pffffft, posting TRO art to compare to contest art, for shame.

I'm not comparing the artwork, just showing you what you can do with 40 tons, without going to 60 in such a lackluster fashion. :)

EDIT: Sorry Daekar, for derailing. And also a minor apology to Monky's in order.

1) We maintain a positive and supportive atmosphere in this subforum.
2) You didn't post anything you created. Come back when you have a drawing for us to comment on.
3) His SuperCommando is better and looks more like the original Commando than the TRO you posted.
4) Please refrain from making offhand comments to deride the art others have put effort into. You will be afforded the same courtesy if you have the guts and gifts to participate.
5) Constructive and kind feedback/suggestions appreciated.

Please keep other behavior restricted to the cesspool that is General Discussion. Thank you.

Keep in mind it's also a clan mech, completely short range and 100% ammo dependent, with less armor. All of my stuff is inner sphere with some helm memory core tech (it was designed to be 'in timeline' with comparable restrictions to MWO). It is a nice mech though, I agree.

Also, no apology needed, my 'for shame' comment was tongue in cheek

Thank you for editing your post, I'm glad you understand. :-). At least for me, sharing my art is a move that makes me feel very vulnerable...  I'm baring a part of myself, and I know that I and others will feel more comfortable doing this stuff if we all keep on a good supporting track.  So... can we look forward to an Adridos special edition Supersized Mech?  We would all love to have another participant! :)

And speaking of participants... where is Bishop Steiner?  I always look forward to seeing his work... even if it does make me insanely jealous. ;)

To be honest, this is what I really wanted to see.
