My point of view is i loved mechwarrior 2 on pc & i only knew of these mechs from the clan names. The original names seem to have more of authentic value to the mech & pluss they are simple way cooler then saying vulture compared to Mad Dog.

Post your opinions !

I usually like clan names better, but I sort of go through phases of calling them by their IS names.

I get them mixed up sometimes. Not a lot of people seem to understand what I mean by Timber Cat and Garglewar.

I'd vote, but I dislike all the IS names for Clan 'Mechs.

Guess I'm just a dirty, vat-born b______ like that, but there it is.

Can you put a option of none in both polls? Due to I cannot pick all Clan, and no Inner Sphere for my vote :P

You do realize that the Inner Sphere names came well before Mechwarrior was a byte of code on the PC, right?

Stay with the true names. Clan names are the actual names of the 'Mechs, the IS names are simply code or nicknames.

Some I prefer the clan names where others I prefer the IS names. Gargoyle brings up more imagery and possibly fear than man o war. But I prefer Thor over Summoner. Has more to do with what sounds more threatening and what imagery it brings up.

Yes, but the Clans aren't exactly know for their stirring and evocative names, either.

^^ This. And for some, I prefer neither. Some just have bad names.

I for myself like the german names (no matter if IS or clan) of some of those mechs way more then the originals. They simply sound more impressive.

I guess I'm a bit of a mixed bag. I mostly favor the IS names like the Mad Cat, Masakari, and the Daishi. But some uf the clanner names I prefer for those less ubiquitous, novel-main-character type mechs; like the Uller, the Fire Moth, and the Mad Dog. There was an old cartoon on tv called Mad Catdog about two mechs of different species who lived together and were conjoined at the butt. Yeah, that's the ticket.

On a side note, I love the Puma. It's like the fuselage of a 747 sticking out from some great slabs of steel and with PPCs and legs strapped on.

It'd be really cool if the obvious answer was taken:

If you are playing an IS faction, you see the IS names.
If you are playing a Clan faction, you see the Clan names.

It'd be cool for fluff, accurate and solve the debate entirely all at once.

Pretty much this. It'll improve immersion for both sides of the war.

+1 on the idea of showing the different name based on who your faction is, but I can understand if they decide not to do that if they feel it will confuse people. Either way it will be exciting to see those clan mechs in the game the first time!

The poll really doesn't make a lot of sense to me. But a perfect example of a mech with an IS name that I prefer is the Cauldron-Born (Ebon Jaguar to the Clans).

A few of the 3050 Clan Omni names I like both names actually, and will use one or the other depending upon if Its a Clan or IS based character I am role playing at the time.
