k I replaced the shaders.pak in the engine folder of the game with the shaders.pak from cryengine_pc_ v3.4.0.3696 freeSDK (also in the engine folder)
makes the mechs look like stainless steel but have only had a black screen once and a yellow screen once in 25 matches..
i put the original file back and the second match crashed to desktop.

http://imageshack.us...entchromey.jpg/

no glow for damage but no crashes so far either..hope i dont get banned for this but im tired of waitin for them to fix the bugs

update..
after playing for most of the day i still have not crashed to desktop..however i forgot that i also did one other thing...deleted the default profile in the user/profiles/ folder.
i have had the framerate bug once /yellow screen once/black screen once/no hud or info on screen but could move and fire/and blown up with 1 shot to the arm

Might try this.

I almost prefer them being chromed.

So, you basicly dumped the shaders PGI have developed for standard cryEngine shaders...
Well, yeah, you can get stability that way, but mechs may not be the only thing, that looks weird now.

God.... I'm terrified that the game doesn't have any anti-cheat mechanics preventing swapping of the files just like that.
This means essentially that you can write a shader that will make enemy units glow, and make them very easy target without bothering much (just mix code from IR vision with standard and you got it - undetectable cheat). WTF PGI?!

Sky walker: They addressed your concerns and mine that I brought up to Garth in a PM in which was answered in Ask-the-Devs 25. I wouldn't want them to say SPECIFICALLY what they're doing to protect the servers from cheaters/hackers, but I would like them to tell us that they have used all known and some other nefarious means to attempt to cheat/hack their servers and all attack vectors have been identified and nullified. Anything less, is irresponsible and absolutely unacceptable.

As to anti-cheat to user files, the server dictates specific damage values to the weapons you use to the areas you're aiming at. The game will not let you drop into a match without an engine. Hopefully, it won't let you drop into a match with a hacked mech that has 15 ER PPC and 90 DHS with a 390 engine with a Centurion or Hunchback.

I know, but thank you. Anyway, big download to get just a 24kb file. I have dl the latest SDK (v3.4.3) and it won't work for me. I still have the 4 fps/blackscreen/crash after 2-3 matches, but the framerates are more stable and gameplay is a bit smoother than before. My desktop PC is low end and my game is set in low.
So maybe this is working only to minimize the memory leaks on more powerfull game rigs.

It used to let you do that. The server authoritative nature of the game does not extend to mechlab designs. Mechlab designs have their own verification process that happens each time you save your mech. Before that was enabled you could change some files client-side and walk around with a 9 AC/20 Hunchback with 972 heat sinks.

so far the only changes are the shiny mech's have not seen any other odd textures that have not already been seen

The newest version on the website didn't work for me. . . I'd love to get a copy of the one YOU used, for sure.

Tell the devs! You did a good job figuring out that ctd is related to shaders!
