I hope you noticed that I wasn't being serious about my post. The 5.2 million are most probably spent on infrastructure, salaries, rent, legal fees and possibly massive amounts of painkillers for every dev who reads the forums.

Somewhere I read that (from Helmer?) that the USD 5.2 are sufficient for 6-7 months of development.

I think we should be cautious about dividing up the community. As an EU player with 120-130ms I understand the attraction, what concerns me is that if we divide that community into "Americas, Europe and Asia" we end up with the same size of community, divided by 3. This could hurt match making and match activity at a time when the game isn't fully developed and people are already finding a million reasons to hate it and storm off.

It happens all the time in MMOs, dividing the community isn't always a good thing. Who cares if you have 20ms if you can't get a match when you want to play?

I'm in the uk,part of a clan/merc corp that has players spanning the globe (certainly continental africa, Europe and north America) start splitting up into regional servers and it will split our corp up + without a player base in the 50k region I would imagine haveing multiple servers would just increase que times into games and fragment the community, I would give it a year before going down that route. Ideally it would just be 1 big *** server like ccp have for eve online. That way we keep the variety and cultural mix. I'm loving fighting with / against North America - I usually only get to blow away Europeans (and as a Brit frankly we have been doing that successfully for hundreds of years) - it's only the Americas that have ever betten us historically.

Vive la differance, kill the rest

ye, but having 1 server with 130-350ms ping, for 80% of all players(like it is now) will kill the game expirience, players will be bored with lag-shield latency. and leave for any other game that have better game performance. )ping under 50ms is good one.

Yes, you may reduce the number of mech pilots for a short time, when they were divided to eg. NA, Asia and EU. But the ping difference irritates new players, while they test MWO. This was one named reason, why clan mates in our multigaming clan went back to WoT and/or PS2 with EU servers (in PS2 ALL have the same lag problems, so its fair again ). ATM MWO will have good cards in NA, but worse on other continents and there less chances to get more pilots.

To be fair, current Brits are mostly descended from Europeans that conquered the original Brits (actually the same could be said of us Yanks).

I personally don't like the aussies with their 300 pings. Most times they are cannon food. Other times they are just plain lamers. Met this 4 aussie premade where each of them were a streak cat. Yeah well when you got 300 ping I guess laming is the only thing you got left.

Is this topic about nation bashing and ego posing or about the need of regional servers?

Currently the population is probably too small to support it. The increased costs involved, combined with the fracturing of a small community would probably come close to killing the game (or certainly start it farther down that path).

Not fully thought through:
Since PGI/IGP has anyway to rent many servers (they have remote access to) to host all the matches, a seversplit wouldn't really increase the costs for them.

Example with simple symbolic numbers:
Let's assume the whole playerbase is just 1000 players from all over the world.
To run the matches for these 1000 players PGI/IGP must rent 50 servers.

If these 50 servers are located in NA or the EU or AUS doesn't matter.

If they split the servers to 20 rented servers in NA and 20 rented servers in the EU and 10 rented servers in AUS wouldn't really increase the overall cost that much.
Since the player base would be split as well.

All that counts is the number of players per server possible which defines the needed amount of servers in total.
Where these servers are located doesn't matter at all for PGI/IGP but it does for the players.

I will start premium time/invest more money only on a regional server (EU) with fair pings. But when there is a EU-Server, I 120% will invest more money in that really nice game! Meanwhile I will reactivate WoT-premium, like lot of my clan mates.

Lol you mean vikings and the Normans or you talking Roman times? Either way I think you'll find most Brita are a good mix of celt,Norman, Saxon and Viking (with a sprinkling of Roman if you go back far enough) but that's all thousands of years ago . The last thousand years it's been the Brits doing the invading / winning accept for the colonial civil war.

They know where their players are connecting from. If demand was that much higher in Europe we would know it.

Forum polls mean squat when I can single-handedly create 100 accounts to vote in that poll.

In the era of cloud services, moving a server(cluster) is as easy as writing a mail to support/choosing the option in your hosting CP, so no it will not "bankrupt" PGI. What is more interesting is what serverspecs they need for what amount of players, and the nearby infrastructure quality, which lets me wonder why they host at Canada atm, when you can use US or Germany.
