I don't think PGI has enough funding to afford any more servers around the world, and the player base I'm guessing is small enough that it would split the community up even more.

Lol are you serious? Servers cost peanuts nowadays. Split community ye true 80 % of community have ping over 120ms...they even cant play normally as for now.

Peanuts? They cost a fortune just to buy, and another fortune to keep them running. What you're thinking of is renting small server fragments for like 15-20$ a month. This is not the same, not by a damn long shot buddy.

Yeah, you are aware small business servers cost less then what a online game utilizes right?
Also, I'm 21. I'm pretty old for a kid don't you think?

You should probably start thinking first, they're already out of that money. (more then likely)

IGP bragged about making $5 million from founders. From a business standpoint the only reason I can think for the publisher to be announcing that is to encourage investment or placate current investors. Unless they're publicly traded, companies don't just go around talking about earnings unless there's a motive behind it.

With a team of 55 people, that wouldn't even cover burden costs of their employees for one year, let along overhead, licensing fees, marketing, etc.

Bad man- what?
I don't know what kind of business you work for. But you seem to misunderstand something (or, lack the understanding of something)

IGP, there publisher. They essentially got a loan off them. Funding isn't free money you know. Also, you gotta put money into the programmers and designers. And those aren't minimum wage jobs. And they work long hours a day usually. Then theirs marketing costs, server costs ect... That money will go down in a blink of an eye in game development. Its actually been an issue, games development cost has only started going down recently. This is a multi-million dollar business and it eats million of dollars to stand up right. Indie devs essentially function by either skipping costs of some things or using cheaper resources. Not everyone is as talented as to make a big selling title on there own though. Most people, average people, require a team to accomplish something decent or good.

So when you factor in that they're already on a low budget, with... what was it, 60 employees? Servers, IGP... this thing literally devours money. Its more then likely why they opened the cash shop so soon.

^Essentially what this gentlemen said.

I think the COD games range more in the hundreds of millions when you account for marketing and distribution. Of course they make that money back in spades.

Servers? Cheap? Can I have some of that crack?

My dad's company, a cellular company just dropped almost $2mil on IBM servers. And the company is one of the top in the world for server efficiency due to virtualization. A small local bank I worked at had $3mil in servers, and it only had ~245,000 customers.

Paraphrased: Servers ain't cheap. Not the quality ones needed for gaming.

EDIT: I forgot to mention, he only bought 10 servers. Thats close to $200,000 a server.

Servers for banking ....Im sure its expensive ... they are all duplicated at least once first second ....amount of protocols even for simple operation is huge .... cellular company same thing but in different way.... We are playing game here lol Amount of data transfer as well as the many other factors are not the same to say least!

There are no servers outside NA yet.

As for their ETA, I heard 'don't know, Q1 2013 hopefully'. Fingers crossed?

That sounds about right, but you're also leaving out the constant maintenance fees. These things need to be running constantly so extra care is put into them to make sure they stay running.
