Look at World of Tanks. This will most likely have a combat system in that style, just of coarse changed to fit the Battletech/Mechwarrior game style.

I for one sure hope so...WoT is my heroin till this comes out :)

I fully expect you to have one or more pilots you you need to level their skill to make them more effective in game. From the interviews, etc I expecting trees for each mech class as well as related skills like ew, tech, gunnery, and piloting. Giving you a pilot gives you a *huge* time sink as well. That introduces more reasons for players to put money into the game.

Everyone's favorite postor child LoL has summoner levels where you get the skills over time. At the high end it has the rune pages that you can spend unspeakable amounts of time earning IP to develop rune pages for every situation.

Well at this point it's really all speculation till we get offical word. In the mean time I'm thinking this is more like a action RPG.

About as RPG as World of Tanks is I would greatly assume. In that game your tank crew does "level up" in a way. Their proficiency in whatever their function is starts at default 50% (you can pay in-game money for instant 75% and Premium Money [Gold] for instant 100%) and raises as you use that tank and crew.

You do realize how contradictory your question was, right?

MechWarrior IS an RPG. That's how it gots its start. BattleTech started as a mech battle board game and grew from there. MechWarrior expanded BattleTech into an RPG, providing rules for character development and basically bringing it into the same genre as D&D and other tabletop RPGs out there.

The MechWarrior video games grew out of the tabletop RPG.

And if you expect to play this game without being drowned in a flood of old school RPGers who can cite the history and traditions of their units, prepare to be disappointed. You'd probably be better served to go play Perpetuum or some other MMO that doesn't have such a long, rich history of role-playing.

EDIT: If your concern is whether or not player twitch skills will play a role, the answer is, they will. We've already been told that. But they'll be enhanced by your characters skills. So, for instance, your reticle might be a little more stable or your lock times might be faster as your character gets better at their weapons skills. Or your chance to be knocked down might be decreased if your pilot has good piloting skills. But twitch skills will still play a role.

So far with what i have read, MWO will be, at launch, More like World of Tanks than Star Trek Online. You will not see or use your human pilot except in the cockpit of your battlemech. I guess the devs want to KISS this game. No RPG game elements. I would rather have Mechwarrior as a true RPG game, like STO is, but i will be happy with how MWO will be.

that's true, but, I fear that would in effect give people who simply have more time to play an advantage in a competitive game. Would you like to see your House losing territory to some players who have hours and hours more to invest in leveling up skill boxes than you do?

I guess practice really WILL make perfect. MPBT rewarded time invested, too- you won more missions, you conquered more territory, you ranked higher. Veteran pilots will have advantages green ones don't. (And I'll be that XP boosters are part of the store to help people compensate for not playing as much.)

Drop your mice and grab a joystick, pilots!

Regardless of whether it's a sim or an RPG, I've almost always played MechWarrior games with the mouse- joystick feels too twitchy for precision aiming weapons to me. I only ever use a joystick, if I have a choice, for flying things (or if it's similar enough to flying that it doesn't matter, like using agile submarines in Aquanox or SubWar 2050, or piloting spaceships). I admit I didn't do too bad in the Tesla pods the one time I played in those, and they use sticks, but I still didn't quite feel comfortable with the sticks, regardless.
Still, I'd have no idea how to reproduce a pointing device for a free-aim reticle (like, say, the one in MW3 or StarSiege) in a cockpit environment.

Yes BattleTech is an RPG board game... you can do more than just play matches of 'Mechs fighting on a map... you can create your characters, companies, etc to "live" in the Btech universe so to speak... packed with tons of rules most folks just won't understand :(

MWO is a Simulator/FPS style game from the videos released so far. No RPG aspect... just tech trees as stated from the Dev Blogs... so yes you can develop your character/pilot, however that's about it in relation to the BT RPG aspect...

I predict more creation of diapers needing changing than drama though.

yet there is, you unlock abilities I was under the impression as you advance, but seing as there going to allow the formation of guilds and allow you to choose a side to fight for and work on claming different planets etc, this is RPG rich. I think your not aware of what a RPG is, its not always about stats.

I know every thing is supposed to be secret but perhaps the devs are taking it a bit to far , because all they are accomplishing
is irritating more and more people .Last I checked the more irritated ppl get the less likely they are to spend money.
Just a thought

I hope to see the xp and cash rewarding system similar to WOT, and the social aspect of EVE. Jumping into the action is great but it's nice to be able to coordinate with others on your team. Stopping to type into a quickly fading chat window makes tactics and strategies almost useless and takes away from the flavor of the game.

That's not what the subject was. The subject that I was replying to was how the matches would take place. Random Match Maker throwing random players and "platooned" groups together.
This of course isn't how Clan Matches are, but this will be how the random fights are.
