We all know that drivers and code can come together beautifully, or completely hose a game. Some games perform better on Nvidia, some perform better on ATI/AMD, and others are fairly equal. I am curious (More of a question for the devs to be honest) if the game is being built on one platform or the other, as it usually indicates better driver support.

I'm new to the whole Engine so have no experience with other games it might have ran to compare it to. Thus, my question.

If anyone does have experience with the engine in other games and knows if the engine itself seems optimized towards Nvidia or ATI/AMD or HD 3000 (JOKE!) please let me know :P Also, what card and system might be helpful to.

I personally have an I7-2600K @4.2ghz with 16 gigs of ram, Crucial M4 SSD, and a 580 GTX Arkham edition.

Thanks in advance

CryENGINE 3 Loves the AMD Radeon HD 69xx/77xx/78xx/79xx (Cayman/GCN) series, and Nvidia Fermi/Kepler GPUs. The reason? Because once you touch that DX11 button, performance goes up the roof, but so does tessellation. Older cards have issues handling the tessellation. However, in DX9, the GPU isn't used nearly as much as the CPU for whatever reason. It's why I'm able to play it on my quad core Phenom II laptop with integrated 4250 crapics at ~24-30fps. (albeit at minimum settings at 480p.)
The 580 does okay, though it falls behind the Radeon HD 78xx series which seem to be made for CryENGINE almost... see here.

And that is here; http://www.techpower...HD_7870/13.html using the beta drivers that came with the test cards for TPU.
And here it is with the newest drivers (with the 680 on the block);

(note the 78xx series is missing?)
So you should be fine with your system. (note these are in DX11 with high resolution textures and all settings maxed.)

Thanks for the info! I will probably upgrade my video card at launch time... who knows what will be around by then?

http://www.guru3d.co...-hawk-review/19 shows very different benches for the 7870, the ones above seem too good to be true.

important note: the gameplay says powered by nvidia so you can be pretty sure that is what they are using.

"powered by nvidia" is just advertising in most cases. Though with CryENGINE 3 it seemed to be the case originally, before AMD came out with a GPU that was decent at tessellation.
Also, keep in mind different reviewers use different scenes for their benches. TPU may have simply used a scene that for whatever reason rendered exceptionally well with the 78xx series. They're still great price/performance and performance / watt.

From the trailer, for what it's worth.

However, I'm sure it will run fine on a wide range of video cards, being an F2P model.

OP, you already have an Nvidia card so either way it seems like that's what you're using, but for what it's worth, there's nothing wrong with them in Cryengine 3.

The 7870 is normally just a hair slower than the 580, which makes the Crysis 2 benchmark, either way, just another example of the 7870's usual stellar performance, but not necessarily any kind of unusual outlier. Most review sites back Guru3D's results here, which isn't surprising. They're generally among the best review sites, with results that are rarely, if ever, outliers.

I'm sure it'll be fine, I only run at 1920x1080 (Older monitor, even though 30") so it looks like I'll get some solid frame rates. I've never played either of the Crysis games so was just curious. Wasn't sure if Crysis 2 used CryEngine 3 since you know, Crysis 2 and all or I'd have just checked benches myself elsewhere :)

Still, very helpful, thanks all.

By the time the game releases the GTX 600 series cards will be out most likely if not already.

You'll probably be fine. And the graphics dont just depend on the graphics card itself. Alot of features like Anti-Aliasing, Shader Models, Shadows, Ambient Occlusion, rely on the processor and amount of ram you have as well.
