I would vote yes, IF it involved CBills, but since its an MC thing, I wont ever buy a paint scheme. just not worth it for me to invest real cash into a paint job. rather buy mechs with it.

I would probably buy skins if they worked similar to TF2's hats - when I buy it I own it for all time, and I can equip and unequip whenever and how often I like for free. If I had to pay each time I wanted to change (I'm assuming that's what is meant by "non-permanent" in thread title) then there's no chance I'd pay.

And yes, I'd expect the skin to be usable on all variants of the same mech, for just the one purchase price.

Last point ... lets keep skins sensible, shall we? TF2's hats started out kinda cool but eventually the designs became really stupid.

Pay per spray vs. Unlocked paint job per mech...Let's assume 300mc per paint job.

Pay per spray: maybe 1 paint job for my favorite 3 mechs = 900mc
Unlocked paint job per mech: at least 3-4 paint jobs for my 3 favorite mechs = 3600mc

Your call PGI...

Wait for community warfare, poor souls who like to play in a merc company with friends a b c and in another with friends x y z, both companies with exclusive paint jobs for x mcs... Clever PGI, very clever... Don't misunderstand me it is ok to pay per design change, but it should be unlocked and swapable for the mech variant you bought it for. Changing one color of your design is a change of the design i.e. Mc.

PGI can't seriously expect me to pay for something I already paid for once, especially since it is only a skin unlike say premium time which of course has to be paid again and again.

Not only would i pay for it.. i will pay for it no matter how they roll it out. There is no way to put a price on customization for me. Ofc i like to pay as little as i can but the current price/implementation is not a roadblock on my amazing race to a awesome mech.

Well most of reality actually do that, like your house if you get one... no free repaint there ... Same with your car... and your haircut... and those classy jeans you bought back in ´98 but now are done for.. no free replacement of them.

And as i said have said before.. If hero mechs and this is the price to keep them away from irritating stuff such as rental mechs and MC ammo it is ok by me.

Think I'd plunk down some MC for a customised skin, but then I'd expect the ability to apply it to a 'Mech when I see fit.

Honestly, I'd like a system similar to the modules. Instead of GXP you'd spend MC to "unlock" a custom skin and then pay Cbills to apply it to a 'Mech. The custom layout would show as an option for any 'Mech, but you need to pay Cbills to apply it for each 'Mech individually.

Well, I don't think I really need to say it, but your views are not shared by most people.

Your comparisons to real cars or houses are not valid, as this is a game and the paint jobs hold no value beyond the enjoyment we get out of them. Generally we play games to collect and complete and advance.

Even if you look at them in a similar context - If you repaint a house or car, it's an investment...if you repaint a mech it's a complete loss. Your comparison with jeans actually argues against your own point, as I am not required to return/burn the jeans to get a new pair, I can keep them and use them if they ever come back in style or I get a new shirt that goes with them.

Sorry, but I really feel like PGI is just taking too many shots in the dark with how to do things, this is just another example in the growing list.

So if you want to apply the same two-tone custom painjob on your new car as your old car had... That should be free too.. That does not add any real value to the car as it has a perfect paintjob already and might in fact make if more difficult to sell once you are ready to upgrade... That will be done at a loss too but it will be done any way.

Same here. The mech works just as well with a basic green paintjob as it will with any custom one. And who knows perhaps they will introduce a version that is more expensive but let you apply it to all your mechs in the future.

If the population feels it is to expensive the price will come down. My prediction is that more people feel like me then you though.. Especially as only 2-5 % are active on the forum (and that tend to be the most vocal and combative part)

yes the MC to C-bill conversion rate is a little high, if you sold and Atlas for 5 and everything else for less, I wouldn't be surprised if 90% of people purchased one (I mean, I can skip this grind for $2? COUNT ME IN [I mean I personally paid $60 haha!]). If they did paint more like that, seriously, .10 a change, then this silly system would be much more acceptable, personally I'd prefer a moderate payment, .50-1, and keep it forever. At this price and system, I will never buy more than one, once, and it would take a long time for me to want to buy it.

My stand on this:

1. I don't want to pay relatively high price for the for paintjob I don't own afterwards - period. It's not about the money, it's not about being cheap or whatever and it's not like I'll be swapping colors every two hours. It's just that I don't like rentals, especially at high price (and this is high in my opinion). Especially because those paintjobs are not even unique. Either lessen the price or give option to buy something permanently and with option to be able to apply them on any mech and any variant.

2. What I do want to pay relatively high price for is the unique paintjobs/camos. If I want to drive my Jenner in all pink with small white rabbits with yellow hearts all around the CT I want to drive it all by myself ! ;)
And please PGI, take my money for that, as much as you want ! ;)

If it stays like this I might just stick with one free color or pay for one and that's it. I couldn't care less.

The proposed one-off system is kind of absurd, and I'd expect very few people will bother with it. The obvious choice would be making camos "unlockable", it doesn't matter if it's on a per chassis, per variant, or per account. Needless to say, once the "skin" is unlocked, any further customization (such as color changes) should cost C-Bills. If necessary, they could also charge to "unlock" color palettes and whatnot.

But once owned, everyone should be able to freely combine and change between them just for C-Bills (while also keeping the option to repaint via MC, if they didn't want to pay in CB).

Plus, we all know that "unlockable" means "collectible". With single-use paintjobs, it's unlikely that anyone buying one would ever change it - however, with reusable and collectible patterns, even those who wouldn't often change their skin would still purchase other patterns just to collect them all.

This poll, like others is tilted to the OPs point of view.

Its simple really.

PGI needs to make CASH. Cash keeps the game running.

Camo is a vanity item.

Camo is PERMANENT unless you CHANGE it.

Look at it like this. (IF) you own a car, most likely it is painted. If you want to change that paint, you must pay to paint it differently. IF you dont like the change and want the original colour back, you gotta pay to change it back. Simple.

I find it hard to complain about the company wanting to charge real Cash to do vanity items to your mech(s). NOBODY says you HAVE to get a paint job. You want it? Pay for it. Dont wanna pay? OK fine, but dont gripe about it because they want to make some money so YOU can play.

Ok. Take your Car to the body shop and get it painted. Now go back and change the color. Get tired of that and go back to the original. How Many times will the shop paint your vehicle for free? Buck Up and quit whining cause you have to pay for what you want. :)

There is a thread about selling "Pots" of paint. That we can apply to multiple Mechs or to the same Mech Multiple times. But when the # of applications are used, you need to buy more paint. Much like Painting Minis on TT.

My Car is a physical object. Painting it requires physical materials that are expended.
There are real material cost.

There are costs to data base transactions as well - but are they different between me applying some custom color on it and me installing a Gauss Rifle instead of an AC/10? I don't think so. What PGI asks for their product and their database transactions is their decision, but it's my decision whether I'm buying their product. If they are interested in being in business with me, they should figure out what I want spend money on, and what not. They can decide on their own whether that's reasonable or not. But it can't hurt to give them a good idea first.

The car painting analogy has one very big flaw.
If that's how its implemented, then MWO will be a trendsetter in a rather undesirable way.

Most other games with optional monetised cosmetic improvements allow you to buy a certain improvement, then put it on and off if you wish.

I think most people would even be okay if after buying it with MC, putting it on and off cost Cbills.

But to chintz out and go pay for every change?

Put it this way, changing your mech's colours should be more like changing your clothes. Once you buy that shirt, no one gives a damn what you do with it anymore. That's fair. You can wear it every day, or never wear it, or wear it every other day.

Imagine telling people that they had to pay for a shirt, and everytime they took it off to wear something else, and wanted to put it on again, they had to pay you once more. You'd be told to go jump off a bridge. Which is probably what I'd tell PGI.
