I'm unsure. It was a F2P digitized version of the tabletop game, and you could buy units with real money, since 'Mechs and decent tanks were ****** expensive (but could still be bought with in-game currency, minus "donation units"), and nigh impossible to actually manufacture yourself. But it was possible. You start out with your own "empire," and just build from the ground up. The main thing was to get in a good faction, or as my friend did, actually "buy" the rights to an already-made faction on eBay. Madness, I say. Unsure of the people who actually made it, though.

And between all my ISPs HATING the system that was used on the maps (lag, and therefore, lost turns), and my own puny empire getting quashed when it was just starting to be big enough to not be ashamed of, I just kinda fell out of it. And then I went back a few months ago, and the daily battles went from > 500 to < 3, so... Yeah.
