I guess macross robotech is where a bunch of my favorite mechs were created.
Locust
Wasp
Stinger
Pheonix hawk
Shadowhawk
Griffin
Archer
Crusader
Warhammer
Marauder
Battlemaster
Rifleman

And somewhere along the way a rift formed and macross stopped letting the Mechwarrior series use them. I hope somebody creates a game mod for MWO that adds those back in. It would be the actions of a modder so MWO wouldnt be sued. We can only hope.

I would say less "cool" mechs, more "old original mechs." But yes, the short version is the studio that came up with the original art made a mess of everything with the licensing of their IP. This was further exacerbated by FASA losing a lawsuit against Playmates, so they were afraid of getting into another fight with Harmony Gold (the license holder for importing Macross stuff to the US market).

Short version, is they simply settled with HG and agreed never to use the old art. They can still have the mechs talked about in their books, still use the stats, just can never use the old art. Derivations of the old art are similarly a thorny area.

Some of those mech's do have approved new art though which could be used as in game mechs

I would have to agree.

I remember when that book came out for Battletech with all the new mechs in it like the Atlas. They looked so terrible compared to the original mechs. That was when Battletech lost all momentum in my gaming group, and we moved on to other games. There were two of us who had been anchoring the whole Battletech experience for our group since it launched (i.e. paying for everything, building the models, raiding train shops for terrain features, etc). I migrated to Star Fleet Battles, and my friend, who was an unbelievably talented painter of tiny things, moved on to 15mm Napoleonic miniatures. We still played the Battletech Lost Worlds books occasionally, usually while in lines at conventions, but we never returned to the main game.

Er, no. Many of the unseen mechs you name are cool. But almost all of the MWO mechs are also cool (not the Jenner!). In fact MWO has an absolutely great design team when it comes to mechs. All of their redesigns are a whole lot better than most of the original designs (including unseens) in my opinion.

MWO has the finest looking mechs i have ever seen, except perhaps for some clan mechs. Vulture and Mad Cat are perfection so i hope they'll just keep the old designs.

Furthermore I think collisions must be back in the game.

No offense but the commando in this game looks like a suit of elemental armor on steroids! lol Jenner is the last mech i would have thought of to put in. What about the Panther, Mongoose, Falcon, Thorn, Wolfhound remember those?

Non Macross mechs like Battlemaster and Griffin are still legal for TT, don't know about computer game legality.

Panther? Just what we need, more mechs that are painfully slow for their weight class. He can keep the Hunchback and Centurion company.

I can only think that many of the "original" BattleMechs were ripoffs of some old-school Japanese Manga - not just Robotech, but other JapAnimation.

The Wasp, Griffon, Phoenix Hawk, Rifleman, Marauder, Warhammer and Archer and others were exact clones of either Robotech or other old-school JapAnimation movies. (Can't recall which offhand.)

Thus I suspect we won't see any of them for licensing reasons.
