Optional that is, and only applicable to own mech.

It can be difficult to see where your rounds are falling(not that its totally necessary since the netcode is so screwy) when your own the move in a knife fight and/or as FPS spikes.

All AC rounds have tracers currently.

Perhaps I dont see them because of my graphic settings, but I dont see any tracers from my shots. I see that my rounds are shiny/silvery with little sparkles, which is rather festive and all, but there is no phosphorescent trail.

I see that Gauss rounds seem to have definitive tracer, but not my ACs. AC Tracers would really help in dynamically determining the state of convergence, lead, etc during hectic encounters.

The AC2s could do with only every other or every other-other round being a tracer. But the AC5s could be every or every other round as a tracer. And AC/10s and above would likly be every round being a tracer.

Now the question, hard trail or soft?

Game doesnt need more hand holding. If you cant aim ballistics thats your own problem.

If tracer ammo is added it should have a downside like it does in tabletop of doing less damage than standard ammo.

I sort of agree with this one, but for a different weapon system; the MG Array and also for a different reason. If we get a dusk or dawn scenario, tracer arranged in the traditional 4:1 ratio would look spectacular.

Perhaps it is a failing of mine, but I would already classify the rounds that ACs shoot as tracers, since you can easily see the rounds flying through the air to their target. I don't see how tracer rounds would help in any way over what is currently implemented.

Shiny silvery sparkles that you can follow all the way to the target. That is a tracer.

This, and it would also help folks trace back to your location more easily when you are using long range ballistics.

Besides, you can already watch the rounds travel. Especially AC20 rounds. Hell, you can practically outrun your own shots with those, though I hear projectile velocities are getting looked at, so hopefully that will change.

OTOH: If they ever got netcode fixed and dx11 going, tracers would look dead sexy on night maps. :)

There are times rounds get lost in the fray. Especially when FPS tanks. My 5s are much easier to track, but my 2s all but disappear at times. A soft trail that lingers longer or is just longer in length would help a lot. If every 4th round had decreased damage, than so be it.

Plus, this would provide much better convergence feedback...especially under lag.
