I don't think Brawler and XL Engine should ever be in the same sentence :S

Objectively, most of these builds looks really heat heavy. If you run a brawler within 1.3-1.4 HE, you can fire all day (rotation not alpha, but alpha when nessecary).

I understand people all have different mech building philosophies, but why cram in tons of weapons for a high alpha and then get stuck only using 1 weapon to manage your heat once you reach that heat threshold in game?

Consistent damage and longevity should be the priority.

I won't agree with this. I cannot remember how many times XL saved my mech in the field. Basicly CTF 2x's are go into two groups - GR based - are line mechs that do best when you try to stay 150-200+m from the enemy and preferably behind something from your team. AC/LBX based fits on the contrary end up fighting in ultra close range - just because your main devastating punch is your dual SMR6 pack. And for close range you need speed to disengage. Turn your back and run.
Large STs are not that big a problem - just twist your torso to cover front arc when receiving heavy fire. Ocasions when you have intact CT but blownaway ST are rare.

Speed is life for a good pilot. Being able to duck my Cataphract behind a building at 75+ KPH has saved me many, many more times than side CT damage has killed me. So I guess I would say that if an XL isnt working for you brawling your not doing it right. This build can alpha up to 4 times before having heat management issues. Usually by that time somthing has died, or soon will.

This build runs a 1.17 for me and is more than enough H/E.
Gauss to 1 key
Medium laser on arm to 2 Key
Chain the two ct lasers to 3
leave the 6 packs SRMS on 4 with chain fire enabled.

lbx 10 ac + 3 tons of ammo
2 srm 6
14 dhs
and it works just fine
any suggestions?

yea. Drop the med pulses to mediums, use the weight to swap the lbx for an ac/20 :P

Literally just dropped a 4x for a 2x, and im pretty pleased with the results;

The Massacre;

Max Tonnage (70)
Firepower 50
Heat Efficiency 1.36
Armour-Standard 416 (from legs)

RA; Large Pulse Las

LA; SRM4s X2 W/Artemis (2 Tons of Ammo)

RT AC/20 (2 Tons of Ammo) C.A.S.E

LT: Empty
CT: Empty

Double heat sinks 10
Endo-Steel
Artemis

STD engine 280

Thing works quite well at getting into a brawl, and putting down those seriously dangerous heavies.
Fairly good at scaring lights, and with the ac/20, you can even get the odd-headshot :)

dont really know how to attach an image, but i have a scoreboard from this morning of this thing in action, and its pretty nice :)
