Here's an idea. If someone wants to make a group, they need to get cleared from "Outreach", and file paperwork making them into a mech unit, and if the person splits from said unit, there will be penalities.
I forsee a dark future otherwise....

Day 20
Me and my best friends formed a merc unit and we are crushing the competition. It's a bit annoying since Sinkiller keeps sniping the mechs and stealing my kills, but as long as we survive to the end, whatever. I'll talk with him later so I can get some kills as well.

Day 25
Sinkiller is still up to his old tricks with snatching the kill from me two seconds before I was going to destroy it. Well, I don't care, I'm only 240 points away from a Heavy module that will get me to increase my autocannon damage.

Day 26
What the heck! I'm done with these guys. Sinkiller keeps stealing my kills and he just got a module that allows him to increase the accuracy of his large lasers, I've discussed it with the commander, but he's so satisfied with getting wins, he doesn't care. I think he and Sinkiller are best friends in real life, Screw this. I'm joining a different group.

I forsee this becoming common. Thus, if you join, you must stay for a certain length of time, but if you quit, there needs to be a length of time to quit from that unit, otherwise, it's going to be convoluted since people are going to belong to 3 merc units at a time.

Sniper Power!

sorry but i dont want to have to wait to join another merc group.

What you are forgetting is that my friends and I have been playing other games together for several years. When you already have a ready made Merc Unit then why would people quit it? We already work really well together!

The Evil Chickens Welcome the challenge laid forth by all members of this community. We all look forward to facing you on the battle field and hope that no hard feelings are held against us when we are salvaging your Mechs. Furthermore, we hope that you will join us at the feasting table after the engagement and enjoy delicious HAMBURGERS, and SAUSAGE. We as chickens, however, do not partake in chicken of any sort and will gleefully defend all of our feathery namesakes to the bitter end.

Now that this section of half truths is out of the way, I just want to say, as I sit here eating chicken breast with pasta and salad, Good luck to everyone, and Have fun! Once we are all able to play that is! :D

I think the Lone Wolves are set up to be the only true 'neutral' units, the Devs have stated they don't have loyalty points but they will fill a 'special role' which to me says... they are the guys who balance out any group that's low on players and can just switch around and fight for anyone.

It sounds like, when a merc corp fights it will be for one house against another, you will always gain rep with the house you fight for, and lose it for the one you fight against. But unlike faction players, you gain no personal loyalty... it's more like reputation for yours team. If say your always attacking the Combine, they will stop hiring you, whoever you are fighting on behalf of will trust you more and offer you bigger jobs (but if you suddenly attack them for someone else... they wont offer you as big a job, cause you'll lose some loyalty), and anyone who isn't involved wont care.

So theoretically any given Merc corp could be working for about half the Houses in the game (or more if they just gang up with multiple factions against the same faction to use as a punching bag.) The more Houses you try and remain friendly with the more carefully you will have to balance your missions. If your players attack any given house too much you'll lose the option to fight for them, but if you don't fight for the same houses enough, they you wont be able to get as BIG a contract. Also since all your members contribute to the score... if you don't coordinate efforts and you like different houses to work for.. you could be canceling each others Loyalty gains and losses if your fighting for different sides of the conflict.

Loyalty points are different for Merc corps and Faction players, faction players earn them individually for rank, while they may be called the same thing they don't function the same for mercs, who are earning them not for themselves but for the corp and the corps various loyalties will determine the jobs levels they can do for different houses.

Also I seem to recall something about mercs bidding for contracts somehow.

I'm thinking it coul work like EVE. Shooting one Steiner drops you a little. Killing all the "Freekin' Steiners you see" will drop you a lot. To get back on Steiners good side to have to shoot Davions.
Note: House Steiner used only to illustrate the point. No Steiners were harmed expressing this thought.

we apply for missions for a house, the house "pays" us, not any players. even if house players hire us to fight with them, their house pays the bills, as it pays them... i don´t think that there will be any "player to player contracts", but i could be wrong... just my view of things based on given informations...

Guess I won't be using any High maintenance Mech's and/or group with High risk groups if I can't get a security deposit / down payment because players aren't permitted to pay other players.

Course, thats if I even bother playing.

{EDIT: Though I see why they'd do that in F2P game, some people will cheat/grief/spam with a fresh account or transfer anything they want to keep to a fresh account to avoid losing it when they start doing stuff that will get them banned.}
