What are you smoking? I mean I guess it is awesome if you enjoy:

-A horrible newbie grind of over 100 games before you can buy and equip a decent mech
-Trial mechs that are no more than overheating coffins
-Jenners that skip across the screen and can't be hit
-Your view blacking out whenever you take more than two hits from a missile or ballistic weapon
-Lag
-The same maps over and over

I would also argue that despite arguments to the contrary, the game is not F2P but Pay to Win. Those who pay have more money, more mechs, more customization. They have a ton of advantage over someone just starting out.

I was looking forward to another Mechwarrior game and have been sorely disappointed in this one. And please spare me the "it is still in beta" garbage. The game is released to the public and they take money for transactions. Not beta.

Welcome to BETA.
Your definition of "pay to win" is wrong.
Maybe you should wait on this until release?

-Um, they take money for the game. Not beta.
-As a founder, you earn more money than me. More money means more mechs, more customization. You get to tune your mechs whereas a newb gets one of the trial coffins. You paid, you have advantages I don't.
-The game is released to the public with a side of "we take money now".

Sorry, free stuff typically sucks. If you're not willing to shell out the equivalent of half an XBox game every month... find something else. The F2P model scares me for games... nothing GOOD is free, sorry, it's just simple economics.

You may be happy to know that MW:O costs less than 1/5th of an X-Box title to play as a Premium Account user every month if you buy MC at the bulk-rates and use it to buy 1 Month of Premiumness at a time (winds up being about $10-11 a month) :D Even then if you decide to stop spending money after a few months, you get to keep playing for free with all the stuff/money/XP you earned while runnin' Premium.

Those arguments about the game being tough for new people are true and all, but are only valid for people that can't stand working to get better at things and earning their keep. If anything starting with nothing is better because it teaches you to become a better pilot working harder with less efficiency or weaker weapons. Saving a ton of c-bills to eventually buy a mech and outfit it to your own designs is a much greater feeling of achievement than pretty much all new games have these days.

In response to the original poster, yes this game is awesome for being a F2P game and it's only going to get better!

I completely agree. I figure half based off of wanting to buy new Mechs and the Premium Account. I pay a base per month for my son's XBox Live, plus a game a month, and then whatever Premium content he works to buy. My online gaming is a lot cheaper than when I was a console player, minus the rig. I just think it's silly to want a AAA title for free, but of course no one who posts this stuff is willing to work for free...

It's an old argument... F2P gives you a way to experience a game on a limited basis for no monetary investment. If games like MW:O give a chance to make it perpetual, players should be grateful.

Yep, excellent game, and free to play, and getting better. Can't wait for Inner Sphere factions to be added to a Battletech universe.

And the Founder snobbery surfaces. I guess since I'm not willing to put money down for an unfinished game I shouldn't offer any criticism at all right? I mean, how dare I expect to have some fun in a game.

I haven't paid a cent. I play maybe 10-20 games every couple days. I have a fully tricked out Commando (first mech), Hunchback and Cataphract. I'm having fun, doing fine, and not ******** in the least by the founders. Man up. What do you think this is? You play 5 games and get yourself the biggest mech? You have to earn that **** son. Hell, even in the singleplayer Mechwarrior games you had to grind to get mechs. You'd play for hours before you got anything bigger than a medium.

In other words, stop being weak or go away.

I've been having a great time in MWO. And it's only gotten better as time has gone on. Of course this is my gaming experience, as I have had very few problems. There are things that suck occasionally, especially immediately after a patch, but those things seem to get ironed out pretty quickly. All in all, I am happy with this game, haven't been playing much of anything else, and am looking forward to many more hours piloting stompy robots.
