If I had to guess I'd say dead mech animations are probably far lower on the priority list than other game features.

My guess is that the dev team will update the death animation in the future and mechs will probably end up collapsing while remaining in the spot where they "died". I'm hoping they could also provide some form of cover.

I just imagined an atlast crumpled over in the foetal position ;)

Attention passengers, please put your head between your knees and kiss your lower rear center torso goodbye.

Personally I would rather they not despawn at all, if they don't explode they then become blocking terrain which can be destroyed (this has an advantage in the concept of salvage) if they explode they should liter the ground and have an effect on movement in that area.

(Disregard this banter if you are not interested in half-asleep speculations and suggestion. )

Speaking of exploding, that is one thing I have been thinking about. And it is also one thing I noticed when reading the WizKids Classic Battletech Tech Manual namely, reactor explosions.

Such a massive and disastrous reactor explosion (ex. the one we see in the trailer.) is a 1 in X (X being "I don't know how many thousand/million"). So this could be a very rare and awesome way to dispose of a wreck. One that could in theory stop an entire match as people watched in awe.

Now the ragdoll approach is also a viable solution as long as it take into account the massive weight of the 'mechs, so they don't just slide away down a hill as weightless limp objects. (I'm looking at you Bethesda. -.- )

But at the same time I would not mind an explosion from carried ammunition, scattering at least portions of the 'mech across the battlefield.

But one can only speculate until I'm sitting there in my own 'mech and blasting away with a big grin as my first opponent bites the dust. ;)

From the looks of the video, that's what the Catapult was doing! ;)

It's an alpha build and a obvious bug. The disco Hunchback is funny imo ;)

He looked like he was doing the ED-209 spill down the stairwell...lol
Well Im sure that is just an unfinished thingy. But..I sure hope some good death animations get put in and mech wreckage stays on the battlefield. It would just be icing on what is a beautiful PGI cake. You guys are 5 star cooks btw...

I thought the vid was cool and I'm drooling. I assumed the instadespawn was because they were in hot drop mode and the guy was just jumping in to a fresh cockpit.

I'd love to play some "Kick The Commando" with my assault mech friends. Also, blocking off chokepoints with mech corpses might be an interesting tactic. There is an absolute max of 23 corpses on the field at any given time, so I don't know how this presents a latency/processing issue for anyone who can run the game.

Don't fear releasing videos, you have other things to worry about.

Like what if the game fails?
What if DiabloIII takes all your players?
What if the eurozone collapses (as it will soon) and your launch is overshadowed by a market collapse?
What if your family is killed in a freak lunchables accident?
or are taken hostage by gophers?

This stuff happens.

Dont you feel better now???

dont sweat the small stuff. ;)

((((but seriously watch out for gophers))))

Well the thread name itself is, imo, an over reaction and is alarmist. Its just pre Beta game footage.

I don't mean to imply I don't value comments and criticism (I do, moreso than yes-man comments) - however when it's things like:
"That HUD looks unfinished"
or
"That feature looks incomplete"
My eyes twitch.

OR you can do the research and/or use common knowledge like everyone else has/already did and find out that the footage is alpha, meaning it shouldn't be taken as indicative of the final product.

In other words, not expect people to hand answers to you!

The problem here is that "common knowledge"...well.....isn't.

Comming to a forum and expecting to get knowledge is like comming to the desert in search of water. It's there for those who know where to look. Everybody else is really thirsty.

Most people seem to have figured out forum trolling way faster than they have figured out google searches. I don't know why.

Showing me an Alpha build isn't going to make me criticize you less, it just makes me couch my criticism in more polite terms. I have no idea whether you've noticed the details I've noticed, so I note them. It is the dev's choice to take my advice or ignore it.

Anyone care to comment on the single spawn comment by the narrator? If its true, that's awsome. I just don't want to get my hopes up about marketing guy misspeak.

To my knowledge, the 2 game modes at launch, Deathmatch (which features up to 12v12 with 1 life per player) and Dropship (which features up to 12v12 and 4 lives per player).

The Deathmatch seems to be set around 20 minutes, whereas the Dropship game will probably be a 1-hour or so event. (just rough estimates)

Okay... Am I the only voice of reason?

While I would love nothing more than piles of Mech hulls (I am resisting the urge to capitulate the term "corpses"... but it's just wrong when addressing a mechanical war machine) but has anyone seriously given thought to the amount of bandwidth and processing power necessary to maintain the battlefield persistence of dead Mechs? Realistically, I think the best we can hope for would be a non-interactive destroyed Mech placeholder, to which I ask why even bother?

One needs to keep in mind the game needs to keep track of all assets in the game... Mechs, detached Mech parts, missiles, ballistics, and environmental effects... A pile of Mech hulls seems to me to be the lowest assets to worry about IMHO.

I second Garth's eye twitch.
We appreciate all comments, good or bad, as long as they're based on the understanding of a WiP.
We could just as easily not show anything except edited, flawless footage; but we prefer to show the process because we want you all to be in the loop and on the cutting edge.
Hold our feet to the fire; but keep in mind the process.
