For me it will depend on the mech I'm piloting

Light mechs, Fast paced Industrial Rock and Metal to get in the mood to move rapidly.
Medium mechs, classic rock tunes. I see myself grinning like an ***** as I scrag some poor sod to "Magic Carpet Ride"
Heavy mech, Classical Music... what? If it was good enough for Fronteer Elite 2, its good enough for Mechwarrior.
Assault mechs, Irish themed punk and rock (Flogging Molly, Pogues, some Dropkick Murphy's etc, maybe some proper Irish tunes like the Dubliners and the Furies).

Its not that odd a mix of music, and I will be throwing in random comedy and country music that I like (Yes, I do have Monty Python tunes, and Yes, sit on my face is one of them). Also, for those truly big battles, got some bagpipe music lined up.

Yes, *********. If you're going to war, you listen to something that helps inspire FEAR in the enemy. Don't give me that look... yes, THAT look. Wipe that smug smile off your face kid... DO IT!
Oh that's it, you are so going down when this game launches.

Jeehun Hwang's Mechwarrior 2 soundtrack was so evocative and amazing at the time.

Although I had played the tabletop game going back to the late 80s, I can credit the Mechwarrior 2 soundtrack with really pulling me into the Battletech universe.

Tracks like "Silent Thunder" and "Arkham Bridge" just really captured the feel of the game, and I remember at times how desolate some of the landscape was, and how the music just made it feel more desolate.

I'm pretty sure you can find MP3s of the soundtrack online, if not, I think it can be pulled from the game CD.

Anyway, I would love to see something like that (even for a multiplayer experience).

Well I'll be playing Steiner. So I fully expect to have an entire Wagner Symphony playing in the background.

I will be listening to the songs of pop sensations: Lady GaGa, Katy Perry, and Ke$ha.

A few number performed by the cast of glee will make it in as well I suspect.

I have yet to come across a soundtrack more appropriate than MW2 and its various expansions. GBL and Mercs especially.

Back when those games were new, I had a reel-to-reel deck with a built-in dual cassette and full RCA ins and outs, along with input and output rheostat signal level controls.

I'd pipe the audio tracks from the game CDs out from the SoundBlaster, across a genderbender and into the deck. Add a little signal strength and lay them down on standard audio cassettes for the BEST highway background driving music evar,

Ye gods, I used to make mass copies of them for anyone that brought me a blank cassette. I probably handed out 500 or more of those. Very popular, they were!

If they could just do that over again, that'd be swell.

(Am I having an audio brain fart, or, in thinking back to those tracks - did a lot of that have a very Trent Reznor feel to them?)

My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic theme song. I'm joking. They'll probably have music, but it depends on what type of music.

A few of them did. A lot of them were just had a very "appropriate" feel for the missions in MW2. They were perfect.

As long as i won't have to listen to an indie band called Dreamslain or opera i'm fine with just about anything.
Look Dreamslain up to get a good laugh. They must be the worst band to ever stain the history of music.

To think they proclaimed themselves to be the coolest indie metal band in the northern hemisphere....it's just hilarious.
A buddy of mine who plays in an indie band (they have actual talent) himself went through their entire reportoire of songs.
It got really comical when they tried to change rythm in the middle of their songs.

That buddy of mine has an evil side to him that made him encourage them to get on stage. Imagine how the audience would have reacted to their "music".
It would have been a lynching for sure. ;)

I made a thread about this a while back. I am ready, and think this is the perfect place, for Mechwarrior to adopt an epic and thematic score like Daft Punk's Tron soundtrack, the Halo theme, the Elder Scrolls theme, Mass Effect and on. MW2 got the closest it has ever gotten, I think, but successive games reverted to a sort of "RC car commercial" style of guitar riffs that I do not feel does any justice to the universe. I want a sweeping orchestral that reflects the power and majesty of the houses and mystery of the Clans/Comstar, supplemented by electronic scoring and deep bass that reflect the heavy technological war that tears across the Inner Sphere.

As a side note, I thought that Firefly's country guitar doodles reflect the feel of the more secluded periphery quite well.

Skyrim has great ambient music, but the score makes me want to play every time I see the title screen. I want a title screen that really makes you feel the need to blow up some 'mechs.

Also, I don't think the multi-cultural nature of the universe has yet been represented in MW scoring. You could have folk influences from anywhere, depending on what nation you are dealing with.
