Just had to add to the pile of feedback here, this latest patch made the game virtually unplayable for me. I am seeing my frame rate frequently drop below 20 FPS with some very nasty lag/choppiness to go with it, where as before the patch I was getting solid frames of 50-60 with the occasional drop to 40 or so but with little or no degradation in gameplay. Issues are especially bad on the Forest Colony maps.

My system specs at Intel i5 3570k @ 4.4 GHz, MSI Radeon 7850 2gb @ 1050 core/1350 memory, and 16 gigs of DDR3 ram. I have the game installed to an 128gb Crucial C300. I'm in the midwest with a connection speed of 15/2 cable and my ping is typically 35-40 ms. Settings at the default/recommended "high" with resolution at 1680x1050 and FOV set to 75 degrees in user.cfg.

EDIT: Clarified a few points in game settings and system specs.

Nice work. Prior to this update, had unplayable FPS on a River City. But now everything seems to come alive. Of course, this map and now is the slowest, but improvements are obvious. Way to go and good luck, guys.
System Specs:
AMD Phenom II X4 945
Asus M2NE
4GB DDR2 RAM
GF 9800GX2
Running on High 1280x1024 with AA on.
PS Really looking forward to adapt the game for SLI mode. Then I can play on the 9800gx2, and not on the 8800gt.

I have dropped once again in FPS. Start of November I had over 60 fps, now i'm under 40.

Slight loss of FPS, especially when the fur starts flying in a match.

I've noticed that toggling my HUD overlay off (Shift+F11) sometimes improves FPS. This can be seen even when spectating.

1280x720, Medium settings, unchanged since last patch.

Menus, average of 33 FPS. Usually more like 20 in-game, often dipping to 10 or as low as 4 during combat and fast movement.

Spoiler

Connection speed 20 MBPS, region SF Bay Area, California, US.

-How had the patch generally affected your performance?
This Patch didn't change anything in terms of performance. In combat FPS is arround 5-10(CQC) and 20-35 (in Distance fights) depending on the map. When standing idle itis arround 40-60 FPS.

-Whether there are specific points in the game when your performance changes.
My performance drops significantly when moving. Specialy when rotating the torso.
One thing caught my eye, when I press a button, even if it doesn't change anything (for example pressing increase speed button, when at max speed) I can watch my FPS drop for a few moments. This also happens when in spectator.

-What are your video settings, did you change them since last patch?
I played arround with different video settings from 1280*800 in low to 1650*1050 in med. No significant changes.
Still 40-60FPS outside combat and 5-10/20-35 FPS in combat.

-Average FPS ingame and in the menus for previous patch and latest patch (Press F9 to see your FPS)
As stated in game FPS vary from 5-60. In menu its 60FPS flat.
With 1680*1050 and 5-10 fps in Combat my graphic card is "ideling" at ca. 55% but my CPU is max out on both cores.
Even in non combat moments the CPU load never drops significantly.

-System specs

C2D e8400@3600Mhz
Radeon HD5770
8Gb Ram
Windows vista 64-bit

-Your advertised internet connection speed / Geographic location
6Mbit (Germany)

Are you really comparing the load of a beta to finished games? [...]

Reading comprehension isn't your strong suit, right?

I was just answering to another post, which stated that ppl should stop complaining and instead start to buy new hardware, because it's just time. While other recent games run just fine on their computers.

I'm aware of the fact, that MWO is not complete. But I kinda have an issue with the "It's a beta"-argument. Because seen from a feature-side the game still is alpha (or even earlier) while we - the customers - are paying for the product as if it's actually been released full-featured.

And just for fun: I've been in several betas so far. One being GuildWars1 - I even did they E3 pre-alpha-event (or what it was) and I gotta say: MWO is in no respect at the same level as GuildWars1 was back then in April 2004 one year prior to release.

But I certainly hope MWO will get there - cause I really like the game even if the CTDs are a pain in the *** :)

Today Frame rate was Fine until about 630 PM, running 60 FPS, dropped in the next match to 28-30 FPS, dropped again in the next match to 4 FPS. This was on my alienware, but CPU usage was only about 29-30%? Logged in on my laptop, normal FPS is about 25. It also was down around 4FPS.

Haven't changed any settings (at the lowest for every spec), but the FPS really drops in battle. I used to play the game just fine until now. It gets really hard to play. Rolling back till this is fixed would sure make me happy.

I'm hooked up with Fibre optic - can't get any better that this.

Well, my computer is singnificantly worse than anybody's I've seen listed up here yet, but the game runs pretty well to my surprise....until the 3rd or 4th match.

Here's the specs:
Spoiler

Even with a pretty old system I get 40 FPS in the bay or when nothing is on the screen, down to 12-20 in combat, which is not good but still playable. But each successive game I play these numbers drop, and usually by the 3rd or 4th game I will have a constant rate of 4 FPS, or sometimes even 0. When this happens the screen will be completely black, I'll hear the match start and other mechs move but I won't see anything and even the quit game box won't show up when I hit esc. I have to force quit the game, and once this caused me to bluescreen and it auto-reset my computer.

The thing that's weird to me is why does it get worse as time goes on? The 1st game is generally good, 2nd is good also, 3rd if playable is usually bad, and 4th is right out. I don't know much about how all this works, bu It seems to me that the only way this is happening is if there's some kind of caching going on, and that cache gets filled, clogging up the game. I don't know if it's using all the memory, then going to virtual memory and that slows it down, or if even the Vmem fills and then it gets clogged, but what I do know is that the only thing that fixes this or "clears" the cache, if that is indeed the problem, is restarting the game. I would think that ending a game and going back to the mech bay would clear this, but it doesn't.

Plays perfect on my computer. Im rated 8.1 minimum on windows 8. 60 fps most of time, never seen it drop below 50 at 1200P resolutions everything maxxed out to the tee with a few additional extras in the NVidia control panal. No issues with heat on cpu or gpu. People wanna talk about hot games, they should try Far Cry 3. Not much to complain about, if any at all. Keep up the good work

Running 1920x1080 on both setups I run on average 12 to 40 FPS on Forest, 18 to 50 FPS on Caustic, 20 to 40 on Frozen, and 20 to 40 on Frozen night.

I even used one of my older Crusial M4 64GB SSD's for MWO Only.. No change.

Drivers are up to date everything is default, every other game runs either 100 FPS or higher, the CryEngine SDK runs at 100+ fps on my GTX 680, and about 70 FPS on my 6970.

Boarderlands 2 is well over 100+ FPS

Metro 2033 is Well over 100+ FPS

MWO Is the ONLY GAME, I can't get passed 40 FPS.

I did come across one thing, While waiting for the match to start I will be between 60 to 120 FPS, but when the game starts, down to 12 FPS then up to 40 then back down to 13 and up to 50, it's ALL OVER THE PLACE.

Asus Crosshair V 990FX

AMD 8120 oced to 4.5ghz and AMD 8350 OCed to 5.2Ghz

AMD 6970 2GB and nVidia GTX 680 4GB

Corsair Dominator 32GB PC2133

4x Corsair neutron 240GB SSD's

This is about the games performance not what people are willing to spend on a computer or game. Those two things do not go hand in hand. Beside which F2P games live on paying players dishing out 10 to 30$ a month with a few whales dropping anywhere from 50$ a month to 200/300$ in lump sums every few months. Most successful F2P games are making 15 to 25$ per player on average (all players paying and non). F2P is always a numbers game. More players = more paying players. Broader system support means more of the 10 to 30$ a month paying players which are the meat and potatoes of a F2P's income.

Yes they need to gear the game up for high end systems but they also need to make sure that the low end systems can run it as well. So they can create the biggest net they can to catch as many 10-30$ paying customers as possible. Whales are nice to inject some cash with but they're only a small part of a F2P's income.

this....

and as for reality...well the reality is that if i can enjoy the game on my 4 year old machine then chances i will give 10-15 euros every now and then... but if i have to save around 350-400 euros to upgrade my 4 year old machine, how many euros do you think i'll be able to drop in MWO after that? let me answer that...zero, nulla, niente, miden...

The last patch is the first time I've gotten noticeably worse FPS. I've seen about a 10FPS drop (from around 25 in really busy times to now down to 15).

Running:
i7 920 @ 3.2Ghz
12Gb DDR3 1333
GTX 570 - drivers: 306.97
Win 7 x64
1680x1050 - medium settings with shadows and effects turned off.

  • How had the patch generally affected your performance?
Performance appears to drop alittle more so than usual when custom paint mechs are nearby. Otherwise, the game is still barely playable due to low framerate.
  • Whether there are specific points in the game when your performance changes.
  • When I'm done loading and the countdown is complete is when the framerate starts to drop into the red.
  • When other mechs are moving/shooting/standing in one place but moving their torso also causes framerate issues. These actions also tend to stack and reduce framerate even further.

  • What are your video settings, did you change them since last patch?
  • My video settings are 1280x1024 and everything set to minimum or off. They have been this way since shortly after the so-called "optimization" patch.

  • Average FPS ingame and in the menus for previous patch and latest patch (Press F9 to see your FPS)
  • Menu fps:51 Loadscreen:31-50 During combat:8-19. Little change, tbh. Still sucks really badly.

  • System specs (You can include them in a [spoiler] [ /spoiler])
  • AMD Athlon II x2 Regor 3.2ghz cpu
  • 4gb ddr2
  • radeon hd 5670 1gb ddr2 vram
  • etc, etc. Ran smoothly before the "optimization" My system isn't what's wrong with MWO.

I add my voice here.

I have seen my FPS drop for every patch.
I am an IT professional so i know my hardware. I have tried a LOT of iterations on settings to see if there is a "goldielockzone" but to no avail.
My FPS ranges from 4 to 40 without any clue as to why really. It mostly hovers around 8-10 though after the latest patch.

I have reinstalled the game. Deleted cache. Looked at ATI settings. Considered installing the whole game in a RAM drive just to see if it helps... Started considering buying a black rooster, some chalk and seasalt.

I have also noted that the game uses a maximum of 900MB or so of my RAM and generates a crapload of pagefaults. I happen to have 12GB of RAM and if the game is hardcoded not to use more than one and spends cycles reading from disk, then the code needs to be looked at.
I think that most gamers today use more than 1GB of RAM...

I want to add something about QA in this game. Yes, i know that PI is a small studio, but come ON!?

You totally missed the ball several times now. These latest patches have been a jumble of versions, that is obvious to anyone who has written a single line of code. Fixes applied after major patches revert after the next major patch and stay "unfixed" again. That is not very good in my eyes.

It only showes that either the head of QA should be fired on the spot or you have incompetent coders. Either way it MUST be sorted if you are to have any chance of succeeding with this endeavour...

I would hate to see this game go down the *******...

+1

I have a friend considering selling the account right now :), and when you see this is a sign that something is wrong. He is not a kid, he is an aged fan of battletech, former mechwarrior player, and I respect his decision.

Is not only the perfomance issue, content and frecuency of patches is disappointing, playing the same maps for months, ending the match in seconds capturing a point on the floor without protection...all this time of pugs being rapped by premades... ppl can hold this for some time, many ppl are tired, and the 8vs8 mode is comming late for some.

And what can I say about the unfixed bugs, the yellow screen, the black screen, the crash to desktop, the 4fps bug, the no hud bug... instead of this, we have a nice and developed system of micro payments implemented, free of bugs.

This is ¿beta?, I could understand this, the problem comes when people have paid for this. I think is an error allowing ppl to try an unfinished game for money, you can end with a ton of bad publicity. I would say, this is better called "release" since you charge us for play it.
And for the "it's only a beta!!" sayers, sorry but no, it is not a beta since the moment they started selling stuff. It's a release no matter whatever name they call it. Although to be honest, the game at its current state is an alpha at most..."

Personally is the last time I pay for beta, I havent enough patience for this, I recognize.

Since the last patch i got several FPS issues as well. I usualy ranges around 60fps. Since the patch i start up with something around 75, but then it drops, without any reason on several locations down to 40 fps. In some cases, in a close range fight on caustic and forest my fps usualy drop down to 20 and below. Makes the game really unplayable...

And tbh, ive benn one of these guys to say "its still beta" but this is no state of a game, where u could be able to release this to an open community. This game has shi.t loads of bugs, nothing works out all to well, and promised stuff comes way to late or just does not appear...

Looking at a lot of mechs is what makes the fps dive massively, there is no setting you can reduce to improve on this.

Did performance get better or worse with the last patches? I've personally not noticed any difference in battles. Maybe LOD tweaks to the environment have boosted my average fps a lot but that's pretty much irrelevant if the fps in battle is determined by how many mechs are on screen.
