The second hero 'mech seems like it will be capable of toting 3 gauss rifles around with 4-5 tons of ammo. While a huge gauss boat fan, I can't help but be surprised that PGI would make the option possible in such a way, introducing it as a paid-only option.

Comments, thoughts?

edit: links and info here http://mwomercs.com/...ost__p__1499352

edit2: my math showing triple gauss will fit http://mwomercs.com/...ost__p__1499493

For edit 2....

XL 180 = 5.5T (This includes gyro and cockpit weights)
3 extra heat sinks to make 10 = 3T
7T of internals
3x gauss = 45T

Total before ammo or armor....60.5T

So 9.5T for ammo and armor, even if you take a relatively small load of 4 tons of ammo for your 3 gauss, you're looking at 1.5T less armor then a stock Jenner moving at sub atlas speeds (48.6 kph would need a 210 rated engine). So, ~ 41.6 kph with Jennerish (less then any custom jenner I've ever seen) armor levels, you're a joke build. If it has only 3 actuators on each arm, sure, you can get endo and manage a whopping 8T of armor, but you're still a joke.

not all hardpoints were created equally. But your ridiculously one-sided logic a Cicada with 4 ballistics is better because it has one more!

The ability to fit 3x gauss or 2xAC20+Gauss is not an insignificant advantage. Hell, even a UAC5 in the arm with 2xAC20s... Those hardpoints are the best ballistic hardpoints in the game and it's in exchange for money. You're blind if you can't see the writing on the wall with this.

shoot, I forget the 3 extra heat sinks you have to add. that does make the build a little more tight, doesn't it?

Heck I think an Atlas would be fast by comparison.

I assume it will be either a JR7-D or CDA-3M with ECM? ;)

Triple AC/10s?
Best heat efficiency high DPS ballistic that will fit in an arm slot.
Double UAC/5s and a Gauss or AC/20?

Still be slower, but you're spending less weight than 3 gauss rifles and you get 20heatsinks free in the engine with DHS upgrade so shouldn't be heat issues.

Of course no matter what you do with 3 large ballistics you're going to be eaten alive by Jenners.

a look at the image here: http://i.imgur.com/DROgb.png

Shows pretty clearly that there will be 1 ballistic hardpoint each in RA, LA, and RT. There will be enough crit slots and weapon slots for 3 gauss rifles. With a 5.5 ton xl 180, the mech will go 41kph basic and 45kph elited, and there will be enough tonange for 3 gauss rifles.

but not the ammo. Also you need 10 heat sinks so you need 3 additional tons for those as well.

3 gauss is 45 tons
armor is ~10 tons (max armor is 13.56 ton)
ammo, you want 3+ tons (thats only 10 volleys, hope your a good shot)
engine, 12.5 tonnes for a XL 250, XL 200 is 5 tons lighter but -2 ton for HS. XL 150 is 7.5 ton but thats -4 ton for HS.
structure is 7 ton

I'm probably forgetting something, but thats over 75 tons already with only 3 tons of ammo. Your not going to get it under 70 tons by reducing the engine any further because your already at 7.5 + 4 tons at a XL 150. 140 is the smallest engine you can fit on the current phracts.

Its a bit of a struggle with 2 gauss on K2's and 4X's getting everything else up to ideal levels like ammo, speed and armor. that 15 tons of weapon is much better spent on other stuff even if you can get a mech with it out the gates.

Sadly the only mech that can fit twin AC20 is the Catapult K2. Heaviest mech that can fit twin guass is Cataphract 4X.

I really wish the Atlas D had 1 ballistic slot in each side torso so I could dual guass/AC20 that thing.

You are just making yourself look ignorant. You can't fit an AC20 in either of the arms because they lack the critical slots. You can mount a single AC20 in a torso IF you go without an XL engine. So at best an AC20 and 2x Gauss. Which would leave you with paper thin armor and a high chance of your weapons breaking the moment someone sneezes on you.

Something like 3x AC10 or 3x UAC5 is far more likely and in no way overpowered. At least not compared to a 4x UAC5 Jagermech...

It would be even more of a Glass cannon than the guasscat. Very fragile.

you do realize that two gauss cant fit in the same location right? and two of the ballistic slots are in the same location. therefore you cant have 3 gauss. derp.

Unless I was mistaken it looked like one was in each arm and one in the RT.

Speculation at best. It's hard to know the crit slots without having seen the mech first.

You could argue the 4X is capable of 3+ gauss rifles no?

No, you can't. Because of the too few slots in the arms. :(

But anyway, I totally disagree with the OP.

@Rathe: You should join the Eridiani Light Ponies. And join their griefing regarding P2W in MWO.

I don't see how you can disagree with the OP, it was a statement of fact. Unless you're referring to my opinion that I think this is a weird way for PGI to make 3 gauss available.

And while ELP is a great organization, fortunately cReddit Merc Corp, which I am the commander of, is bustling with new players. My hands are full. :(
