theres seems to be something wrong with that, either it should be pretty good DPS or it should last nearly forever....
the small MGs are just wrong, their so weak yet so heavy.... for comparsion Gau 8 avenger from A10 thunderbolt weights 281kg,1828kg with 1174 rounds that can penetrate 7cm of armor at 500 meters.
it also fires at 2800 RPM
its 7 barrel engine gatling cannon more than single barrel recoil operated machine gun,I dont think it should really be named machine gun when it weights one ton and can damage basicly walking tank, its behaviour in MW games is much more closer to the 35-40mm anti aircraft cannons... anything bigger than 20mm is classified as cannon

Whats even crazier is when you factor in the AC/2. It does the same damage, but at over 7 times the range, and weighs 6 tons vs the MG's 0.5 ton.

Two things:
I'm largely in favor of half-tons of ammo like table top (and in fact, put a thread up about it)
Also, one ton of MG ammo can feed a lot of machine guns, at least on TT (even with rapid-fire). This means you could fill every ballistic slot you have with a MG and feed every last one with a single ton of ammo.

I support your half ton ammo idea, actualy since you you can as I remember put armor in 0.1ton parts I will like to see this possible with most weapon, like 0.1 means one AC20 round

I support the idea of half tons of ammo, especially for MGs. On the other hand MGs are better used in pairs or more, causing enough irritation on the enemy and causing noticeable damage over time, which also means they need the ton of ammo to bring the weapons to bear in prolonged battles.

The fault here is that you're trying to justify how a video game's mechanics should be based on either (1) real world equivalents and/or (2) estimations on how tech-capable future variants of weapons/tech would be based on real-world equivalents.
The game's weapons are being balanced less by factors of realism and more by factors of gameplay balance, which is IMO more preferable.

Not a fan of the half ton ammo. I'd remind you all that with crit slots I'd want more more ammo per slot and use remaining crits for more boom sticks.
