I cant move the contrast bars and I have graphics mostly set to high. However, the colors are often grey and dull, and heat vision is solid dark blue and little orange glows, and night vision is just pure black with green cockpit.

Do I need a reinstall? Whats going on?

Maybe make a screenshot and post it so others can tell you if its a screen / colour temperature setting issue on your PC.

For me Thermo vision usually displays the terrain and buildings in different shades of blue, mechs and fumes in a very light blue/white color and heated mechs, open fire, fumes in orange to red. Night vision is a greenish tinted view similar to that of a residual light amplifier.

I'd like to see a screenshot. Please note that these additional vision modes are very difficult to see/use for any user

Thermal Vision is useful if you're spotting far away targets and not moving, as you can't see terrain with it but other mechs that are in combat tend to run hot and show up brighter.

Night Vision is only useful when the map is TOO bright like on the snow map sometimes when it's snowing real hard and turns into a whiteout.

They drastically changed the way the alt vision modes when they change the rendering engine to CryEngine 3.4.
I think that they still have some tuning of those vision modes to do.
