Introduction
Okay this is my take on the the Raven, For next week's probable ECM release.

Long range missile scout 2X
A nice build for long range scouting and harassment, even against lights. But don't allow enemy Jenners to get to close, they will outgun you.

Engine: 245 XL Engine
Internal Type: Endo Steel
Armor Type: Ferro Fibrous
Heat Sinks: 10 (9) Double Heat Sinks
Armor Total: 232
Equipment: LRM15 with 3t ammo, 2 ML, TAG, BAP

Close range harasser 3L
A faster build with close range weapons that are easy to land solid hits with. This is the Raven variant that is best against enemy lights while still maintaining a respectable electronic warfare capability.

Engine: 295 XL Engine
Internal Type: Endo Steel
Armor Type: Ferro Fibrous
Heat Sinks: 11 (11) Double Heat Sinks
Armor Total: 232
Equipment: 2 MPL, 2 SSRM with 1t ammo, ML or TAG, AMS with 1t ammo
(Exchange AMS + ammo for ECM)

Large laser support 4X
The build I am least satisfied with, but its still quite good. It is the only variant that can jump and the large lasers allow you to snipe from raised positions. The MG's are there because its hard to do anything good with ballistics slots on a light. I am secretly hoping that MG's will get a buff, but if you are doubtful you could drop a DHS and the MG's in exchange for a SSRM and some more armor.

Engine: 245 XL Engine
Internal Type: Endo Steel
Armor Type: Std Armor
Heat Sinks: 12 (9) Double Heat Sinks
Armor Total: 208
Equipment: 2 LL, 2 MG with 1t ammo, JJ, AMS with 1t ammo

Question:
What "end game" Ravens do you run and how do you differentiate between variants? (I am especially interested in good ballistic builds with the 4X)

Too bad that PGI decided that only the Raven L will be able to carry GECM.

-> http://mwomercs.com/...37#entry1499337

And many other variants of other mechs will be able to carry it.

IMO a missed chance for PGI.

But we'll have to wait until it is finally in game to see its affect.

(I guess it will affect the gameplay a lot.)

Aw crap, well at least the 2X is probably better of with BAP anyway. The 4X is supposed to be staying back to, so maybe the AMS might suffice.

But i still think its weird they went with the mechs they did (Well actually just the Jenner), It just further rubs in the fact that the Jenner is simply a better choice than the Raven.

Even if we just look at the worst Jenner (the EW variant) its way better than the best raven. Its faster, has more energy slots that are all in the arms, it can jump jet and it can mount the same number of modules (A thing that could posibl also had been a Raven advantage). The ravens only upside is that it has one extra missile slot, but they are getting worse now that ECM gets included...

And if you compare it to the 2X it gets even worse, same hardpoints (just in harder to use places than the Jenner), fewer module slots, no JJ, a much smaller possible engine, and... No ECM (I know the 2X doesn't mount it in TT, but neither does the JR7-K)

The Raven chassis is famous for its E-war capabilities, but the way it looks now the Ravens clame to fame will be that it brings ballistic slots to lights?

I certainly don't want to just complain, but I agree with you. This is a missed opportunity to diversify the chassis and variants and make the Raven viable compared to the Jenner.

Just in general:
I will for the very sure run a 3L as well.
Incl. GECM, BAP, TAG and an AMS with 2t of ammunition.

Why an AMS?
Since I won't fight so much actively and do my support job I will stay behind my fighting teammates
-> an additional AMS to cover them is always worth the weight.

But that is just me.

Anyway, well thought OP, kudos.

I don't see the problem in restricting GECM use. If anything, they should take it away from the jenner. This was supposed to be the thing that made the raven worth piloting over the jenner.

As such, I fit an ac10 onto a 4x with a single streak, and that pretty much tops iot out with an xl210 and full ferro/endo

I use my 2x as long range sniper/brawler support. It handels Jenners just fine.
I use my 4x as close range harrasser and chaos creator.
The 3L is my dedicated full on scout mech.
