I WANT to spend money on this game, buy cool parts, build an awesome mech, etc. I want to see my results as I play, not just in the menu.

Customization loses alot of meaning when you build an awesome mech and only see from a first person view. I want to see my mech in action as I fight. Previous Mech Warrior games had this. Putting info in the cockpit on your HUD while in third person does not seem that difficult.

I am not a hardcore guy, I just love mechs, and I want to see the parts I buy as I fight. MW always took place in large open maps, having some third person and some first person will hardly affect gameplay, if at all.

Please add a third person camera, let me give you money!

This has been covered many times in multiple threads. Suggest you do a quick search, 3PV gives many advantages that FPV does not.

PGI has already declared that MWO will be FPV ONLY at launch.

Sorry I did do a quick search and did not see anything. Thats VERY sad to hear. Guess I wont be giving them money. It makes no sense, why build a mech when you dont even see it?!

At least make it a server option or something, older games added it. Man I really hope they re-consider!

You customize your mechs to strike fear into your enemies hearts as your camo hides you while they walk past, only for you to power up and blast the crap out of the, from behind. The customization is in it so you can give yourself more fire power to bring in the hell, or to increase speed and your EW to scout better. You are not going to last long on the battlefield oogling your Mech as things are firing upon you.

I am in first person on one edge of a building, I torso twist, I still just see the wall's corner in front of me.

If you were on the opposite side of the building and in first person and also only see the wall's corner even when you torso twist, THEN you switch to 3rd person perspective and torso twist and as the camera being 5m behind you reveals me behind the other side of the building because your camera is 5m behind you. Is this a fair fight? Nope. Why EVERYONE will be set in first person. I for one LOVE this. No 3rd person advantage.

If we have after action videos, then perhaps all of those configurations and skins will mean more. I can kind of sympathize with the OP, but CoffiNail states exactly why I am ok with FPV only.

No 3PV needed. TF2 has MASSIVE amounts of player customization and they do just fine without a 3PV camera.

Sims, even more so, are less prone to anything other than a 1PV.

It's kind of a silly reason not to pay. IRL, when you buy clothes, you are paying money for something that, most of the time, you will not see yourself wearing. Vanity items are usually worn for the viewer.

But, to each his own, I guess.

Anyone that concerned about watching the backside of their mech is probably not going to be any good in a firefight. Just throwing that out there.

Frequently asked Questions

At least , for now, it does not is appear that PGI will be supporting 3rd person. Once the game is out perhaps they will touch on the subject again.

Locking this one down. Watch your feet.

Cheers.
