I'll tell you exactly why they want Third person view, these noobs in our community who think they can get training wheels for their mechs...

The reason they want it is to have the ability to see around corners, above cliff faces, and remain in cover. It makes them feel safer having the ability to incognito camera angle and see whats on the other side.

That is the only reason. There is no benefit to the pilots ability to make the mech drive with a third person view. And quite frankly, if the mini map with the massive arrow pointing the direction of your legs is not enough for you to go off, I suggest you try Hello Kitty Island adventures.

I'm glad that the community is not as ignorant as I perceived them to be.

God speed.

I have a hunch they want to bring it in as it would probably make them money in terms of people paying MC to customise their mech. Personally i couldnt care less about customising my paint scheme because i never ever see it. If i could see it i probably would find it more interesting and be more tempted. For the record though im against 3rd person.

It's been posted/discussed to death. Bottom line - the casuals want it and they will get it.

I think the OP and everyone who echoes his sentiments are in grave error.

Allow me to explain.

YES: Third person allows you to corner\wall\cliff etc. peak. Totally changing the information warfare game.

BUT: The real reason IGP\PGI have and I daresay WILL make a case for 3rd person is because they think\know it will help with cosmetic sales. Paint schemes and patterns for our mechs are really expensive, but more casual players are going to be alot less likely to spend big money on something they aren't staring at all day.

Don't worry I hate the idea of 3rd person as much as the most rabid fanboy, but it won't be included to "help new players" it will be included to bolster cosmetic sales.

I think the community has been too harsh on PGI in many posts, but 3rd person would get me to hate-post for days.

The day 3rd person is included we can all safely post that IGP\PGI are a bunch of greedy hacks. Until it happens we must all try to be respectful.

All I want is to be able to see my mech do an alpha strike from somewhere other then the cockpit.

Perhaps the 3rd person view should only look backwards, so you see just the front of your mech.

Or perhaps 3rd person camera controls will override torso movement, and your UI goes away so you can take sweet screenshots but not do much else, like aim, or fire, or see your radar...

I want it but not for actual combat. Maybe they could make a training mode where you can drive around outside PvP and use TPV to take shots of your sexy Mech? I'd also like TPV for spectating. It'd be a lot more fun if we could better see the action after we're dead. We're not actually in that Mech, so why not? It wouldn't offer much of an advantage to tell the pilot where someone is. They could also lock the camera to only be looking forward. It wouldn't be very exploitable at all.

Except everytime it's been posted or discussed, we arrive to the same conclusion.

NO ONE wants it. Not 'casuals,' not old people, and especially the WoT refugees are against it. It seems only the devs themselves want it, and are the only ones who feel a need to discuss it.

The ones that do want it Rain are people on the fence about what limits/use it will have. As I said, I still want FP only for PvP. If we do get TP, it should just be for spectating the action after you're dead. With skins coming into play it would also allow you to check out ally skins too once dead.

Want to see your cool camo in action? Replays would be the solution. Everyone would love that.

Nobody wants 3rd person. But it will come very likely. PGI don't mind unpopular decisions. Look at MM Phase 1 everyone hates that too, yet we got it, didn't we?

I don't hate the P1 MM change. It's awesome and greatly helped solo queues. "Everyone" is only those wanting to steamroll pugs for easy C-Bills, not anyone else. The ironic thing is that you can still steamroll pugs effectively or just as often with 4man teams if you're any good. So to group players that were good, nothing has changed. To group players that were bad; they now have to put effort into getting wins. I don't disagree that 8man premade teams should exist, but they should only exist when the system properly supports it. Allowing 8premade vs 8pug was horrible and hopefully they never allow that again. When 5-8 is brought back, they need to be matched up only vs other 5-8 teams, not just 8 puglings to stomp for easy cash.

I don't want 3rd person view at all!! Why is PGI selling us these cockpit items if no one sees the cockpit at all (aka 3rdperson)?

Because they didn't think their plan through.
Expensive cockpit stuff? Check.
Really cool, really detailed, really funky cockpits, with everything in them? Check.
Every mech has a unique cockpit. Even unique views? Check.

OKAYWENEEDTOMAKEITTHIRDPERSONFORCAMOANDTOMOREPROPERLYRIPOFFWORLDOFTANKS!

So why did they use ALL that time on those features, when they are claimed gamers, and if you're a gamer, you know what third person does to games like these.

While I don't like 3rd person view... I would just like to point out that according to most Battletech novels the neurohelmet allowed the pilot to see 360 degrees in any direction.

This is why we should have an optional bubble head like display of our mech in the cockpit. This allows pgi the potential to sell more camo kits, provide some visual reference for torso twist, and is not exploitable like a true 3rd person view.

Problem solved.
