Considering that the S-4X (as a variant of the 40-ton Sai) is an AeroSpace Fighter, the weight savings are arguably much more important than for a BattleMech of the same mass.
Additionally, internal spacing for ASFs works differently than for 'Mechs, so the problems 'Mechs face with the size of XL engines are not really applicable for ASFs.
(Also, Light Engines do not come into widespread availability until 3062; the in-universe year is 3049.)

I know, that XL is necessary in AeroFighter, but they suck in Mech (Atlas-K for example) and XXL is terrible choice (for Mech) as well
And im sure, that devs speed time a little bit when invasion start, because it'll be terrible to wait 12 or even more years on new equipment

Oh the chaos that would ensue if players could pilot AeroSpace Fighters.

I run XL in my hunchback4sp ....granted it runs 84 and I skirmish and make quick strikes more than I actually brawl with it....but it dose very well for me! I survive many matches.

Aerospace Fighters don't get any weeknesses from using XL engines...one of the few benefits they get over mechs.

I have to congratulate Wakazashi. Truly a great company. I'm looking forward to the rumoured new model of Shilone.
