killing a cicada is one thing but an assault mech or a heavy going against a light or a medium that isnt trying to be something its not is another bring it i say i for one can show you fighting a light mech that isnt piloted by an ai is a whole different ball game.

I'm a little saddened by the presence of the medium lasers in the torso rather than in the arms. I know all the TROs have them in the torso, but the artwork normally places them in the arms, which is the natural place for them, I'd have thought. Still, nice to have them consistent for once, and its a nice looking mech.

Also wondering what's going on with the multi-barrelled thingy in the left torso. Going from previous designs (the Dragon and the Hunchback, for example) the green lensed round thing above that is the medium laser, and the Cicada doesn't carry anything else except a small laser (seen under the cockpit). An empty ballistics mount, perhaps? Seems a little big for a machine gun.

Edit: Ok, yeah, it's the -3M with a UAC/5. That'll teach me for just reading the front page.

um, I'm from the south, and I pronounce it correctly. I know you were'nt meaning to be prejudist, I am only stating that not all southerners have pronunciation issues. (but quite a few do :) ) haha I hate being from the south B)

hope you dont mind getting hit then in your new medium mech thats armed like a light but almost twice the size! hope i made my point dont like to be too whiney. but fellow light mech pilots do your research this thing isnt a light mech its a medium mech that is armed like a light mech and given the engine and armor of a light mech.

Perhaps when I said better I should have said 'more to my taste'. YMMV.

Since some people still refuse to read the entire thread before posting...

It wasn't clear I was joking so I will make it more clear: I was making fun of people pronouncing things wrong in an amusing way, IE. "fah-jai-tahs" instead of "fa-hee-tahs" or "hyper-bowl" instead of "hy-per-bow-lee".

:)

pursang!!! you're gonna ruin Garth's "Troll-Count". Apparently there's a mad dash to catch up to Paul before Open Beta... Well, that's (not) what I heard anyway.

It's pronounced either se-ca-da or si-cay-da, depending on what part of the world you're from.

Lovely take on an ugly mech. Nice work to the artist.

Still would have taken a Blackjack over it... :)

I really love hearing about the experiences of pilots and their new toys, makes me consider ponying up some c-bills and buying myself one. Got a friend who has a scout opening in a lance, might just take him up on that offer.

I admit: I did not predict this.

I guess it makes sense as a "heavy recon" unit (I'm guessing at this point that we'll see threeish of each Role represented in our theoretical dozen launch 'mechs), but I admit I'm surprised we didn't get something like the Hermes (II) or the Assassin instead.

I do have to wonder what the Cicada brings to the table that the Jenner doesn't. Both pack four tons of armor and the Jenner has more firepower and Jump Jets, for only slightly less speed (in practical experience, the difference between 118 km/h and 129 km/h is negligible except over very long distances). The additional five tons is all eaten up (and then some) by the engine for no real advantage.

I like the look of the design, but it feels misplaced among a lineup of generally more-capable machines. Give us the 3C or 3M and it's a different story (since long-range strike capability on a fast platform is something we currently lack), but the 2A just seems incongruous.

EDIT:

Actually, despite the fluff piece describing a 2A, this is a 3M we're looking at. I see a Small (pulse) laser lens in CT under the cockpit and both Mediums on the side torsos. That triple-barrel thing in the LT has to be the UAC/5.

So, interesting to see that we will have some proper 3050's tech available to us at launch, then. The design also implies to me that lighter autocannons are going to be of the "machine gun" variety that will spit small shells at a high rate for as long as you hold down the trigger. At least, I hope so. I can't figure how a triple-barrel arrangement would make sense otherwise.

Actually I think that's supposed to be a Rotary AC 2 or 5, which makes no kind of sense whatsoever, 60's tech on a mech in a 50's game? Clearly the artist needs to be flogged for this mistake.

Cicada-3C... 120km/h with a PPC and 2 MG's. I can't wait. One of my favorite duel mechs on the tabletop, awesome choice.

I believe Garth confirmed It's a UAC/5
