Sorry for delay in response, RL was a pita. Anyways, there are completely RESEEN versions of the mechs, many of the designs are as good or better than the originals to some people. They can use those designs with absolutely zero risk of anything. I'd like to see what FD can do with the reseen Warhammer for example. I know some people don't like it, but it's not bad, and I love the reseen Marauder. REALLY want to see what FD can do with that!

Consider that MWO is aiming squarely at the space currently occupied by World of Tanks

Take a look at what World of Tanks made in the last year, profit-wise.

Ponder whether the Project Phoenix designs are obviously derivitive of the originals.

Wonder whether the actual IP owners could have enough of a case to make it drawn out and painful.

And now put yourself in PGI's shoes, and ask yourself: Is it worth it? Not as a fanboy, not as someone who really wants to see those particular designs, but as someone who has to consider possible legal action if your game does really, really well.

My own answer? Not even a little bit. The Project Phoenix 'mechs are an abomination of ugly. The designs should have been left to the realm of eBay and those of us with old versions of the minis. I know everyone wants their Marauder or Warhammer, but really... the game won't live or die based on not including the Marauder, but it could very possibly live or die based on the legal impact of even a derivitive work. As much as the players may hate it - and believe me, I really, REALLY want a decent Thunderbolt - I doubt it's worth the risk.

A'ight here's my thinking 'bout this mess.

We have in the heavies: Catapult (support) and Dragon (general role/support)

And in the assaults: Awesome (support/laser boat, yeah I said it) and Atlas (biggest brawler around)

As many poster have pointed out, PGI has so far been providing one of each role in each weight class. SO! In this line of thinking...

The heavies are in need of a brawler. A mech that can hold its own against other heavies and is a medium/light weight hunter.

And the assaults need a general role mech in their class. Something slightly more mobile and is flexible in the weapons loadout.

Just my thinking.

Caesar starts his service in 3050 if I remember right so its out of the pool. Maybe in 2013 we'll see the Caesar.

I think a Black Knight+Highlander or Orion+Highlander would be nice.

I would love to see the warhammer/black knight + highlander if it is only two more mechs being added.

however i do not believe there will only be 12 mechs to choose between.

The Catapult 2K steps all over the Black Knights toes for heavy direct fire.

The Orion is a general soldier like the Dragon.

But it could be the Grasshopper, cause it's kinda fast and a close range brawler. It's certainly pretty different.

According to the Master Unit List, Caesar hits in 3049, but I doubt we'll be seeing it anytime soon regardless, as the launch 'Mechs all seem to be 3025 staples.

Good for you. I like the new redesigns, so do others. I'd rather they had redesigns than no mech of that type at all. They're important mechs filling important roles.

I don't like the style of the Jenner, the Raven, or the Cicada, but other people do. They just can't get enough of them armless things, more power to them. Why anyone would want there to be /less/ mechs when we're already limited to 3049 mechs is beyond me.

There is absolutely zero risk from using the reseen designs. I guarantee you Hasbro/Harmony Gold has no say on if they use a mech named the Marauder, or the Warhammer, or the Archer, or whatever. The new models are fine and what we've got. Let's use them with some good old FD redesign.

Anyone who could make the Centurion look cool deserves some faith.

I'm sorry to pop that bubble, but Hollander is a 3055 mech. There is no way it can be in the game at launch. :)

I don't like the idea of having to use Real Cash to buy 'Mechs because to me this game will go down that slippery sh*t slide that you get with worlds of tanks.
(I don't want the Type 59 scenario plus no wallet warriors thank you very much!)

I believe for Heavy - Warhammer What I'd like is the Archer or Thunderbolt.

I believe for Assault - Zeus What I'd like is the BattleMaster.

I dont mind spending real cash for mechs or weapons or ammo, As long as those same things can be bought in game for reasoble C-bills. I mean dont make the good ones cost 100x the C-bills as other mechs so that people basically have to cash buy them. The only thing i think you should get with cash money that you cannot get in game are non mechanical things, decals, paintjobs...etc.
