Learn from the mistakes of those who came before you, KEEP what you buy, even if you think you won't need it in the future. Why? Resale value across the board sucks. For example, take the AC20 which retails for 600K. Resale? 300K.

Now consider that, sans Premium time or other CB bonus, if you have a good match you're probably netting a little over 100K after ammo and repair costs. So if you subsequently want to buy BACK the AC20 it will take 3 good matches to make up that 300K difference.

This may not sound all that bad, but once you start selling whole chasis, custom loadouts, multiple items, etc... that 3 matches goes WAY up.

Assume a variant and loadout that would retail for 5mil. If you sell that chasis, you're going to grab 2.5mil for your trouble (as near as I can tell resale value in MWO is simply 50% retail).

Again, what does that mean in practical terms? To buy back that mech and configure the same loadout will take 25 matches (100k per match * 25). Let's say your matches are averaging 8 minutes, that's a little over 3 hours of game time... IF you take no breaks and all 25 of your matches are wins/good matches.

Realistically, that '3 hours of game time' is going to inflate quite a bit, and is probably more like two or three days of effort... just to get back to where you started.

In the long run then, you're much better off saving everything you buy and slowly accumulating a vast inventory of items which will give you a lot of flexibility in the future for changing things around and experimenting with different loadouts. It may take a little longer the first time around to get some new shiny toy then if you sold what you have, but it will speed things up in the long run.

Remember: Short term gain = long term pain.

EDIT
dangit, Mods this was supposed to be in Guides... I swear I was in that forum when I created this topic! Ah well, can you please move it?

Yeah luckily I learned this with funny money in CB as well. Only thing I sell are chassis that I know I'll never use.

I mastered the dragon but never ever will you catch me using the 5N so I sold it. (I even bought gxp to avoid lvling the POS)

I think most people sell to have Mech Bay room, unless you purchase aditional Mech bays with real money then you won't have room to get your Elite and Master skills unlocked on more than 1 type of Chassis.

The resell values are stupidly low. Not sure what the devs were thinking.

Mech that costs you 4+mill new, resells for 1mill. I mean COME ON!!! At LEAST make reselling mechs get back half the cost.

Yes I know, its a marketing ploy to get peope to buy more MC to buy more mech slots. Stop ****** us for money.

Maybe if people stopped buying MC then they would make some good changes and fixes to the game.

Stop buying MC until:

1. The performance issues are fixed
2. The MC amounts are changed to allow you to get premium for a month and have a little MC left over
3. Resell values are brought up to an appropriate level.

If you continue to buy MC, none of that will get fixed in a reasonable time.

I usually sell the chassis after im done unlocking master, but yeah, most definitely save every bits of ammo, equip, and even armor so I can toy around my mechs with little to no cost

I don't recall ever buying any shiznitz. What do they look like so I can check when I get home?

I agree with the op.

Only thing worth selling are variants you have already mastered but don't really enjoy playing, and perhaps on or the other weapon if you have too many of them anyway.

I sell redundant engines, though I slightly regret selling my 2nd Standard 245, and my 2nd XL 300.

But I don't even use 1 Std. 260, so I doubt I'll need 3.

I should say that I also will sell a chasis if the only reason I got it was to 'level up.' (Honestly I wish I could do that with the Founders variants because sadly I just don't really like/use them).

The only things I'm currently willing to spend MC on are converting XP => GXP and adding more mech bays.

I tend to hoard in all online games. A nasty, but helpful, habit especially in the barebones scavenging universe this game promotes :)

Indeed, keep everything that you buy. You'll be surprised when you find yourself stuffing in that engine or PPC that came with a mech you bought in another one.

(unless you know 110% that you ain't ever using it again, in which case sell JUST what you won't use... in the case of mechs, strip them of everything and sell just the chassis. the odds are, some of the gear they came with you will end up using somewhere else down the road)

I went nuts with all the MC I got from the founders and got a crap load of mechs and then sold them. I kept all the weapons so now I have at least 2 of every weapon... Although I own like 8 PPC's now.

I sell redundant engines and such. I don't mech hop since I watch almost every game until it finishes so I just need enough to equip one or two mechs at most. I did sell the 320XL from my Awesome though. I hate engines that don't round off to the nearest 25. :(

Only a few things I regret selling...XL engines definitely, I keep thinking of builds where I need to drop down or move up slightly in engine size and I don't want to spend 6 million each time. Also, I sold my D-DC because the RS was better. And now I gotta buy another one 'cause they are giving him ECM. I still can't find a build I want to run on it...can't fit 2xUAC5 and 3xartemis SRM6 without resorting to EXPLODING KNEES.

Yep. If you're going to sell a chassis? Strip it of everything. Armor. Weapons. Ammo. Heat sinks.

Eventually you'll hit a point of excess, but it's gonna be a while and as noted, you aren't getting a good deal selling. Selling inventory should be the last thing you do.

I do sell things I accumulate way too much of. I at one point had 20 medium lasers and 50 single heat sinks in my inventory...
