Any software made for Windows Vista+ should be made to work properly with UAC period, so I'm extremely unhappy with the devs on this one. For anyone who suggest that you don't need UAC and an antivirus is good enough, then please quietly go away. An antivirus application cannot stop me from creating an application that deletes your user directory, sending it to you and having you run it. An antivirus also cannot stop 0 day attacks like the one I just had a work recently, but since the users have no permissions then no harm is done.
I am going to try the no patch flag fix for my son later today, but the reason I found this thread is possibly the biggest reason a game should work properly and not need to be run as an administrator. My son who's account is not an administrator account cannot start the game, the other 100 or so games + steam all work fine and can update themselves.
Anyway, I'm disappointed, this should not happen in the year 2013.

(chuckles) You are disappointed that this should not be happening in the year 2013? You are talking about Microsoft. I have some swampland for you..
Nor would people need to create walk-thru or programs for workarounds for the almighty Microsoft OS.

There are lots of reasons for the UAC to pop up, even that program has been marked as a Trusted (white listed) program. Above is one workaround for a specific program.
Below is a freeware program that will help you.

Piranha needs to get in touch with Turbine. DDO and LOTRO don't have this problem. Or maybe we should all give up on MWO and go play Hawken instead. It doesn't have this problem either. Or maybe talk to Valve. I've never seen ANY game from Steam have this issue. Nor does Minecraft, but that's Java.

Since this was bumped again, the better solution is to start MWOClient.exe directly with the -nopatch option. Find it in your MechWarrior Online\Bin32 folder and create a shortcut to it (right click -> create shortcut or right click drag -> create shortcut here). Then right click the shortcut -> properties and add -nopatch behind what's in the Target field. In my case:
"E:\MechWarrior Online\Bin32\MWOClient.exe" -nopatch
That bypasses the patcher and any UAC prompts. Run your old shortcut with the UAC prompt for when there's a patch (if you forget that the client will tell you it's out of date, so don't worry).

FWIW, this still works as of version 1.3.294.

I would recommend AGAINST disabling UAC. UAC was created for a reason, to prohibit stealthy programs from altering the system without you noticing it.
PGI needs to address this at their end:
* The patcher should only request a runtime privilege escalation when a patch is to be downloaded otherwise it should run as an unprivileged user.
* The game client needs to stop writing cache data, logs, screenshots and other junk in the "C:\Program Files\" directory, %APPDATA% and %LOCALAPPDATA% have been available since Windows 98 for cache and log files and the "My Pictures" or "My Documents" folder is preferred for screenshots (They can be found in the registry, here: HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\User Shell Folders). This is how a well mannered program should behave.

"E:\MechWarrior Online\Bin32\MWOClient.exe" -nopatchwill only work if MWO is not installed under "C:\Program Files" or "C:\Program Files (x86)" which is the default and recommended location for software.

I think this is a CryEngine thing. StarCitizen does the same thing.

Hi. Just stumbled across this thread. A few months ago I had a problem with an oldish game, which needed me to find a solution for auto-elevation.
The solution I found is a bit tricky but at the same time safe as you can keep UAC running. What you do is basically abuse windows' task planner to start a program elevated without the UAC confirmation dialog.
Here's the guide: http://windows7suppo...m-shortcut.html
And:
No this is not an engine thing. Far Cry 3 doesn't do that for instance. It totally is a matter of what the launcher is programmed to do and thus fully in the hands of PGI to change it.
