Hi,

My idea is to make it possible for a just defeated player to reassign himself into the mech of a Disconnected or Afk teammate during the same round.

This could be done in the spectator mode, a killed pilot would press a button to send a message box to the Afk/Disconnected player, informing him that he will lose control of his mech if he doesn't hit fire button for the next 3 or 5 seconds.

By making it possible to try it only once per mech, it would also prevent spamming with this function.

I am completely aware that this function is not realistic, but I think this feature could really even teams or just give the killed pilot a second chance to take his revenge.

For the C-Bills and XP gained I would say that the second pilot gets the XP while the unplaying mechdriver just gets enough C-Bills for repairing his mech. (or maybe an auto repair with 0 gain or loss)

Doesn't that kill the whole point of having 1 life per game? How does the game determine WHO takes control anyhow? If you disconnect from a game, how are you supposed to see this message? Why fire your weapon when that could risk hurting a team mate?

Not only is this unreal to the game, it's nonsensical. The 1 chance per game deal gives a sense of urgency to the players, forcing them to play cautiously and think things through or suffer a premature defeat. Giving players a second wind would encourage players to be suicidal the moment someone disconnected.

I see that you are completely against this suggestion but I am only trying to find a solution to the numerous unplaying mechs in a round, and in my opinion it seems pretty fair. This sometimes deciding in advance for the result of the match.

A disconnected person will not see the message, and so his mech would be taken automatically after few seconds. Hitting the fire button was just an example, it could also be the Enter key or any other. The message box would be triggered manually by someone in the spectator mode when he sees an unmanned mech.

I don't think that players will rush to death just to take the control of a disonnected player, first of all because sometimes you don't see who or which mech type is Afk until you enter the spectator mode, then you don't know which weapon load the mech has before you enter the spectator mode.

But to avoid people rushing for getting that Afk Atlas a 1 or 2 minute timer before "respawning" would avoid death rush.

There isn't really a solution to be had on this matter. Is it unfair? in some cases it can be. It gets to me a bit to see the players blame the results of a fight on 1 player down on their luck. This game isn't exactly well optimized for low end users, I experience un-playable frame drop at times and am forced to leave the match to restart my client.

I'm against it mainly because it's a complex solution to a simple problem. There's many flaws behind it, some of which are actually fairly game breaking. Say for instance a veteran player disconnected with their atlas in play. Someone else now has a shot at piloting THEIR mech. What can the vet do? Nothing, because their mech is still in play and they cannot hop back in. I would absolutely hate to have someone pilot my mech for any reason. Chances are, i worked my rear off in the grind to get that mech, only to have someone else use it?

PGI has mentioned they will be adding the ability to rejoin a match a player previously disconnected from, however we will not see that feature until next year. Don't have a link but I think that was in one of the "Ask the Devs" Q&A threads.

I think this is a great idea. Any appeal to realism can easily be countered by the fact that a dropship wouldn't drop an empty mech into a battlefield.

It could just be first come first serve, no extra cbills for the surrogate pilot, just extra fun for all.
