If I buy Ferro Fibrous Armour, then decide to unequip it, will it cost me another 500k c bills to put it back on?

For all the upgrades you get charged each time you switch. I think of it as paying the labor costs to do the switch.

The better question is why would you equip it in the first place? There's very few mechs that can reasonably fit it and benefit from it.

1) It will cost you to equip and un-equip

2) FF armor is useless currently. ES saves more weight and will cost you less.

Endo steel gives you the better bang for the buck. You get 1/2 your structure weight as extra tonnage for the same # of crits for FFA. So that is 2.5 tons free on a Hunchback or 4 tons on a Awesome.

FFA is not useless as some are saying, build your Mech first, then see how much weight you need to make it work, then get FFA or ENDO.

Forget FF for the moment and use ES.
ES has a better weight savings and FF is expensive as hell to fix and you will have a larger repair bill every... single... match.

In my view (TT aside) FFA simply is badly designed. If that lower weight of FF Armor could be used to fit accordingly more of it into your mech (in ordert to slightly boost it's durability) then it would be a worthwhile feature.

Yeah, Endo and DHS are the way to go. DHS is a little pricey to put on, but it's cheap to fix and a guaranteed 5 extra free tons, if not more.

Realistically, unless you really really need the few extra armor points, the space FF takes up isn't worth the weight savings.

I agree! As it is now I do not have any 'Mechs that actually use FFA. If we could use FFA to go beyond max armor it might just be worth the cost to fit / repair. (within reason of course)

Sorry but FF is that useless.

On any mech FF gives you 4 more tons of armour per ton allocated to armour, it means that ANY armour damage you take becomes more expensive to repair per point lost.

Endo uses the same 14 crit slots but it gives you back 5% of the mech weight and only increases repair cost once you start taking internal damage.

For example a Commando gets 1.25 tons with endo which is enough for 40 points of normal armour, FF on the same Commando with max armour gives you the equivalent of 0.62 tons (22 points) of normal armour. On every mech it is the same Endo allows you to boost your mech's armour values by more than FF will and does not raise the cost of armour repair.

I took FF off a Cataphract with max armour and used Endo and normal armour to max its armour out. I had 2 tons spare after using the same 14 crit slots. Yes upgrading to Endo costs more to do but it saves money on repairs in the long run and gives you spare tonnage to customise your mech.

If they want IS FF to be a viable choice in MWO it should use 6-8 crit slots and raise repair costs by about 10-15% unless they decide FF should increase the maximum possible as well as the armour per ton.

Just wanted to say that ES does not give you 5% of chassis weight in all cases.

If the mech tonnage ends in 5 you are shorted .25 tons, it rounds down. But it is still better than FF in all cases.

One thing most people don't know: They nerfed FF a week ago and no one noticed, its that bad.
