Is this game just a sample and not the real game?

I guess what I'm asking is, will the game be sold by CD like your typical game or will it just be downloaded through here?

I just found out that I can't download the game through here because I have a Mac. So if I cant get the game any other way, is going to suck some major b*lls.

Any help will be greatly appreciated guys.

Vic

Apparently is playable on the Mac using an application called Boot Camp. You might want to try to google it or wait till someone else provides more details.

Yes, I just got of the phone with Apple and found out about Bootcamp but that would require that I buy the Windows Operating System.

The question now becomes, should I get Windows 8 or Windows 7?

It is still a beta. It is not a sample, though; the game will never be sold in stores because the game is itself free to play.

If you wish to make a purchase you may purchase MC (Mechwarrior Credits) and use them to buy premium time (bonus money and XP), battlemechs, and vanity items.

The game does not work on Windows 8 at this time, AFAIK.

Yes it is free to download and play but, importantly, it is NOT pay to win. There are no 'gold ammunition' or invulnerable premium mechs. It is beta so still a work in progress, pretty much the bare bones in comparison with what will be in the game eventually.
As for Mac support, why would you buy a mac? Or anything from Apple for they are a source of true (over priced)evil in the world.

The game IS working with Windows 8. I am running it with Win8 64 bit. So I would just use the version you can get cheaper.

Get a Windows 7. There are problems with Windows 8 when installing the game.

Disregard my post. Kyle Polulak and Dirk Le Daring confirmed it does work on W8.

Windows 8 is much cheaper than 7.

I can confirm that MechWarrior Online does work on Windows 8 64-bit, installer and everything as this is what I use at home to play. Bootcamp just allows you to dual boot the Mac OS X operating system along side Windows on official Apple hardware.

We're currently in Open Beta. This means anyone can come to our website, sign up, login and download our game. There will be issues sometimes with bugs, crashes and lost playtime but this is what Open Beta is for; the widest audience to test it and help us build the best game possible.

I never had any problems installing. Works great for me on Win 8, and I have seen very few bugs. :P

Ah, so it appears Win8 is no problem then. All the better, my friend who tried it to no avail must have done something wrong. :D

He did do something wrong. Most notably, he probably failed to install directx 9.0c in addition to the game [windows 8 does not come with this by default]

Here is some reading material

http://mwomercs.com/...g-installation/

do i need to take a screenshot of this game under windows 8 to prove that it works?

First and foremost, I want to thank anyone who took some of their time to help me in this thread.

I will be getting Windows 8 and running bootcamp on my Mac.

It's my experience that Mac are better computers, though more expensive. I love the Retina display and the overall experience that I have with them.

I'm very surprise that the designers of this game are not supporting Macs OS. There are plenty of people like myself with a wonderful screen and lots of Rams to take full advantage of a game like this. Ohh well.

Well they are the same hardware so they are the exact same computers with a 40% mark-up for that little apple logo and OS. Macs made since 2006 use an Intel chip (and nVidia/AMD GPUs) it is the OS and the approach to building computers that differs. Apple traditionally likes to make its products as enclosed systems, no upgrading at home, once you're product is out dated throw it into the bin and buy a new one which is the opposite of the traditional IBM (and its many clones) system which is to be modular and easily upgradeable. Apple are the Orwellian corporation they tried to depict IBM as in that famous and now oh so ironic add in the 80s.

Anyway point is underneath the plastic/aluminium cover Macs are just PCs with a different OS so if running Windows on it MWO should work fine. It comes down to your personal preference in OS and design philosophy/cost/conscience.
