I have been a fan of the Mechwarrior and Battletech franchises my whole life and was excited when I recently found out about MWO. Sadly I did not find out in time to get in on the founders program.

I really love the re-imagined designs for the mechs and especially the Catpult. I am an Card/Paper modeler and decided to build it. Everything you see here was made by hand without the use of computer. Thanks to the art team for the amazing orthographics though, as those made this much easier. You can see all 95 photos including 30 Final and 65 Making of pics on my website:

I wish my digital modeling skills would translate this well into a real-world application. This is some exceptional work! I especially like the multitude of WiP images you've posted at the link. It really gives some incredible insight into the build process.

-edit-

Just one question, why not use clear plastic for the cockpit's canopy glass? Trim it off of some common clamshell blister package.

I dont use 3D software to build my models so to make buildable kits I have to draw everything by hand which is quite a different process from how I normally build. Sadly that means most of my stuff is not buildable. The only buildable kits I have made are for a magic deck box and claptrap from the borderlands games.

Actually I did use clear plastic from a transparency but the new clear coat I used frosted it over. It actually is still translucent but the lighting makes it look like tissue paper. I was pretty upset about it but, oh well that is what happens sometime. I guess it makes sense though because the concept art has one way glass.

Your craftsmanship and skill level are really, really insane and I think everyone here can appreciate that :)

What's the time frame for a project like this, or rather this project specifically? Any plans on doing more? Oh, what's your wage rate for something like this (you can PM me if you don't want to post openly)?

Again, that's some insanely-insane work, one of the best pieces like that I've seen in a long time. Keep up the good work!

This project took almost 5 weeks and 200-225 hours to complete. I am actually considering doing another, though I am not sure which mech. I personally like the Jaggermech but it is not release yet so would be difficult to do just with one concept art. I would also like to do an atlas but would prefer if I could track down an orthographic for it to make the build less daunting. I have thought about trying to contact someone making the game to see if they might be willing to share the orhthos.

As far as commisions, I typically dont do them because unlike plastic models which can easilty be cast in multiples, my builds are all one offs so even if I worked at minimum wage the cost of one of these would be well over a thousand dollars.

As a professional artist for over 20 years now my advice is put a price tag on it and wait. You might be surprised at what some people might pay for a one off. This is if you could let it go.
