And you know by context that I was clearly referring to the MechWarrior video games, so you're just intentionally being obtuse. :P

Nah, just stating that it's best for anyone, even a new person to a genre, to make sure about the history of something before asking/stating facts. Hell, I know what he's/you're talking about, but the OP's own question could have been answered had he looked at the in-game timeline and the time-frame of ANY of the latter Mechwarrior PC titles.

...and don't make me bust out my Crescent Hawk's Revenge just because I am feeling old today.

Grabbed from a friend's old blog. He always talked about the Art differences between FASA's work and the "borrowed" Mechs from Harmony Gold and the others.

Just in case you missed it, it says "Dorkiest Mechs 3025" instead of "Technical Readout 3025". I guess we know how he feels about the Unseen then :P

I would say the Battlemaster and Atlas are more iconic than the MC/TW. But the MC is up there

Oh no, I knew it said "Dorkiest". And as I was saying, his comments on the artwork for the 2750 Guide and 3025 Guide were about comparing the Original FASA mechs against the "Unseens". Looking at say a Stinger and comparing it to Grasshopper the art for the latter was ALWAYS horrid in the earlier guides. Hence why he calls the 3025 mechs "dorkiest", sans the "Unseens".

If I conjur up a mental image of a Battlemaster, it's Hanse Davion's clutching the torn-off arm of a Marauder as he beats the crap out of a bunch of ComStar mechs

The original FASA art was terrible. However much of the "anime" look in the unseens I absolutely abhor, personally. The Marauder in the 3025 pic in this thread for example is ridiculous looking to me, with its spindly arms.

I massively prefer the aesthetics of MWO. Take an MWO catapult and glue on the arms from an MWO Cataphract, and that would make a pretty convincing Mad Cat, and look far better to me than the wobbly armed goofus in that picture.

We're not talking about the designs, we're talking at the artwork itself. The unfinished pencil-sketch style that plagued the early guides was horrid.

Oh, I agree with that statement as well. The line art was terribad, and it continued into later books too. Look at the front on, 2D images of the clan mechs in TRO 3050.

No, I refuse to look at those crap-tastic blocks that pretend to be mechs ever again :P

This game can't handle something that manly

A Timberwolf would 8 on 1 the entire enemy team and come out of it with a chipped toenail. Too stronk.

whoah wait... hold the fuggin hyperpulse!

did I just hear multiple posts saying that the original 3025 art in the tech readout is "horrid" "aweful" and "trash"?

you guys need to unplug because MWO is rotting your brain... the 3025 tech readout contains the finest line art drawings ever to don a Battletech page... the pencil/engineering style drawings of the early FASA books are the best gd drawings out there... most everything later that was not a reprint, looked like a cartoon...

the MWO concept art from Flying Debris/Alex Inglasias is pretty awesome and it has great style. I love it!... but I would also hang any drawing by Duane Loose from the early tech readouts on my wall in a frame...

this Catapult drawing is just dead seck-say i don't care what anyone says...

any other FASA drawing of the Catapult looked like an aborted monstrosity.

Yes, there are some good mechs in the early guides... and there are some craptastic sketches as well.

And MWO isn't "rotting my brain" since I play IT less than I play TT 'Tech still. With my 250-painted army and another 75 waiting to be assembled and painted (unseen models included), MWO is FAR from the source of my standards.

Your Catapult looks great... and then you get the Hermes.

art is art... everyone has their preference... that is why it's art... there is really no good art or bad art, there is art you like and art you don't like.

so me being associated with battletech for about as long as it sounds like you have, for me the 3025 art from Loose and Chaffe IS my standard... and seeing as I did have drafting in 7th grade LOL I'm digging that style... even the Hermes. For me even the worst of the 3025 strikes me more than what might be popular from the later books... part of it might be the nostalgia of the earlier stuff

but I believe we are going to have to agree to disagree on this one... and since we have done a good job of derailing the thread... no one likes that Clanner BS anyway! :P any MadCat I see is gonna get sent packing back to Strana Mechty

You , Sir, should be flogged and quartered for ever typing those words. The Bushwhacker hails only from that ridiculous, craptastic cartoon that should never, ever be mentioned. It's like the Highlander 2 of the BT universe, but worse.

Hmmm... the most iconic mech...? Well i guess if you ask thousand Players you will get thousand answers...!

But for me there are more than one iconic mech! There is the Atlas... a huge Picture for brutal force and spreading fear among his enemys because of its siluett. There is the Mauler... a beast with roaring AK. there is the Victor... a Assault who is able to Jump. And there are a lot of em more, Bushwacker, Javelin, Wasp, etc... etc

At least... they all have something and if they are build as good an in this game who cares... i wana play em !!

I feel the same...
But for me the most Iconic thing in MW/BT will always be a Steiner scout lance....
